I've heard Baltimore has a healthy metal scene. I want to go to shows, but don't know where to look. Can I get some advice?

Bonus points for black, doom, death, and sludge varieties of metal.

Big national touring acts come through soundstage mainly, they’ve got lots of good shows coming up. Death to All/Suffocation, Carcass, Enslaved, Hell in the Harbor festival.

Smaller national touring acts mainly play at Metro Gallery and Ottobar. Ottobar has Dead Congregation coming up, Metro has Hari Kari for the sky.

Local bands will open at those shows and Metro and Ottobar both have local only shows sometimes. Close to Metro is Club Depot. They’ve got local shows…doom is real big in MD and probably the most common but death and thrash/traditional shows too. Holy Frijoles in Hampden has random shows…usually local but they had Early Moods a couple weeks ago. Theh only get posted on instagram. Dive bar called Shamrock Inn has random metal shows too, they only get posted on their Facebook.

I've seen a lot of metal acts come through the soundstage and metro gallery.

Sometimes they play at the pier 6 pavilion, Ottobar, and the lyrics!

Metro/Otto/Soundstage. Check the shows 3/26 at Metro and 4/2 at Ottobar. Metal Monday is every Monday at Ottobar (more of just a hang out, but if you want to get to know some folks…)

Uhhhh…Maryland Death Fest. THE metal festival in the states. 2024 lineup has been announced. Start building up your neck muscles. Hell in the Harbor will be a great stop gap.

Maryland Doom Fest is in June, it's in Frederick, but worth the trip.

Metro Gallery, Ottobar, & Soundstage are probably the most common venues to see heavy music.

Showspace is a great resource for finding shows happenning - https://baltshowplace.tumblr.com/

I run Grim Reefer Fest which is an annual heavy music fest in April (and glad to see someone else plugged it here already) - www.grimreeferfest.com

Active local bands to follow: Intimidation Display, Abominog, Constituents, Gradual Slip, Arsena, Bound by the Grave. Local venues that have metal shows: The Depot, Shamrock Inn, Ottobar, Metro Gallery, Soundstage. There's also an underground scene that has shows at Fort Armistead Park, which people call either The Fort or The Ruins.

There's so many shows coming up I can't afford to go to all the ones I want, in both time and money.

The Depot and Metro have bangerrrr metal shows on the regular. Mi Comalito has free metal shows every month. Ottobar isn't much of a metal venue like it used to be. Soundstage and Rams Head are too corporatey for me, like 14 dollar tall boys are wack.

There are also some local restaurants that frequently have metal/rock shows. Joe squared & holy frijoles are some I’ve heard of

I'd try stubhub.com or ticketmaster for mainstream bands. I've seen Guns n roses at the arena in September 2021 and in 2017. Metallica in March 2017 at m Godsmack at the mecu arena in July 2017 also. Foo fighters also july 2017 at Merriweather. Slipknot and shinedown both were at umbc theater.
