Delegate calls proposal to put light rail tracks down the middle of York Road 'horrible' (msn.com)
I spent the end of last week walking between the Lutherville LR stop and a dealership dropping off and picking up my car for service. I walked mainly because 1) I needed the exercise, 2) the bus that I would have waited for didn't have frequent service at the time I went, and 3) the stops were spread out such that it added a bit more inconvenience to getting to my destination. (There was a stop in front of the dealership a number of years ago, then the MTA was told to make the buses faster by reducing stops throughout the network and here we are.)
I truly do not understand the need to minimize the possible modes of travel that the general public could use to get to where they have to go, especially up and down York Road. There's a quote in the article about ruining the suburban character of the area, but York Road is as suburban as Northern Parkway/Cold Spring Lane with way more space for off-street parking, noisy roads, thin sidewalks, and less transit service.
I guess all those York Road gas station attendants, supermarket workers, laundry attendants, retail staff, restaurant workers, and counterpersons all make $25 or more an hour and take their Dodge Hellcats to work like other red-blooded American suburbanites.
