I've been living here for years & this was the first time i was able to make it to this legendary party. I was blown away! I am a sucker for Psycho Killers and they definitely stole the show. Sentient Lighting did (as they always do) an OUTSTANDING job with visuals. There was a surprising amount of exhibits/activities open as well. It was an incredible vibe. It seemed like the energy was consistently highest on the rooftop dance party. I have to say that i was underwhelmed by "Interstella" but all in all a great time was had. Anyone else care to weigh in?

This is a great Baltimore tradition. We went last night and the costumes alone were worth the ticket. Rooftop DJ dance party was fun with an amazing view. IMAX was sweet but bring ear plugs. Psycho Killers always put on a great show. It’s a Must-Do Baltimore event.

I agree, costumes were outstanding. I will never miss another one of these parties. Besides one very small incident, I didn't see any trouble or jackassery. I think the decision to not serve liquor may have contributed to that outcome.

Had a rude experience at the front door. Arrived around 9:30 and they 'ran out' of the drink tickets that came with our vip tickets. Got 1, but should have been 6. Basically said 'tough luck' and I was lucky to get the one. Also agree that Interstella was meh... Almost no production value from the band. Were they local?

I was wondering about the VIP package, if there was much more to it than expedited entry. Sounds like you got ripped off, that really sucks. From my vantage point it seemed that the ticket/bar system was problematic for all, which is really too bad. It's unfortunate that the staff were such critters to you. As far as "Interstella" i know nothing about them and google was not much help. They were talented but their song selection left much to be desired. I know that room was acoustically challenging but I felt like the sound was inconsistent & muddy at times. To be clear, all in all the night was super fun. I don't mean to be a Negative Nelly.

I get VIP every year, but I get there right when it opens. You get a full extra hour, no line to get in, food (but the line was long), and 3 free drink tickets. I think that's well worth it.

It's my favorite party of the year. So many different options. Hardest part is if you have a group to tell them where to all meet. I love the roof but the music was really bad up there this year.

It’s the best Halloween party in Baltimore next to the time I had at the Ottobar Halloween party a couple years ago and the Alley block Halloween party they throw off Baltimore St and Patterson park

Ok well keep me posted. I want to go to all the parties. I love any reason to go to Ottobar.

Love going every year, always a blast. Pshyco Killers are great but the lead singers mic volume was down way too low last night. Sound guy dropped the ball on that one.

Mixing was poor all night on the main stage unfortunately

I will prob get downvoted for this but I don’t get the hype. I found it to be uncomfortably crowded and huge lines to get in, get a drink, and use the bathroom. Admittedly I went a couple years ago so maybe this year was different- I’m glad you had a good time. I tried bike party for the first time and I definitely preferred it

I didn't have to wait in line for any drinks this year. They had it well run. The food for the VIP was a little long, but that's the only line I saw. Didn't seem to overpacked but I was bouncing around to all the different rooms. It's my fav party of the year in Baltimore.

Same. Love the costume watching, but can't wait to move on every time I get there... Save your soul on the roof is such a waste.

Always a great time! Anyone else catch Big Thicket last night? I was super impressed.

Interstellar started great, but they seemed to want to play the most repetitive daft punk songs. It was a weird set list, they played "one more time" early and then you had to wait through a bunch of "filler" daft punk songs. I had seen them before at the old metro gallery, and this was much better. But I have also seen daft punk live a few times and I think it just works better with synths and djs, although i have much respect for the musicianship with the horns.

but it wasnt filler daft punk songs.... they were playing the discovery album in order. also following the movie insterstella 5555 which is where their name came from i am guessing? it prolly would have made more sense if the movie was also playing while they played.

They were good at what they do but i do agree booking a more high energy band might be more fun.

anatellon t1_iugf6t2 wrote

They played the entire Discovery album song by song in order, and each song in its entirety. Too true to the source imo. A lot of the songs are not conducive to the live show they did. Also the acoustics of the venue and the poor sound engineering didn’t do them any favors

someone please get this in front of Daft Punk lmfao

christwin t1_iuhoylt wrote

Daft Punk would probably agree that a band performing their album in order at a party is a pretty weird set list.

anatellon t1_iuhqyiq wrote

The lack of enthusiasm in the crowd for many of the songs they played was proof enough that the set list was a miss.

We went to a pretty solid party under a bridge in Hampden last year. I need to do science center next year

I got there super late. Can anyone tell me if the only DJ sets were at the entrance and rooftop? I feel like there were more on the flyer but couldn’t find them

There was a venue in the planetarium and IMAX theater. And outside in the bluegrass cafe but I didn’t check that one out

Great time! Line to get in was crazy. Otherwise, it was not problem for us! We got to see all the exhibits and dance on the roof. Lines moved fast for drinks. They could add some competitions or additional games outside!

I really want to go to this next year! Didn't get a ticket in time this year.

I wasn't a fan of the bands, but the Save Your Soul tent at the rooftop was great. I liked the pre pandemic one where they had people like Dan Deacon and that smaller stage (where the bluegrass stage was this year). I am still not comfortable going to packed large indoor events and I'm pretty sure this is going to be a covid super spreader event lol.

LiteratureInternal76 OP t1_iujrgul wrote

Yeah i would have felt more comfortable if there were some kind of covid protocols. I hope people are responsible enough to test themselves, stay home if they feel sick etc buuuuuut i also have enough experience with humans to know better.
