Saw a post about an arena being rehabbed in the city and it got me thinking. Do the people of people of Baltimore want or need an NBA team? I know you had one, many years ago.

That arena is nice, but it's still too small to bring the attention of an NBA team.

It would be cool to have a team here and if Sacramento, OKC, Memphis and Indianapolis can have teams, why not Baltimore? But Seattle and Las Vegas are widely considered to be on deck for expansion franchises.

I'd rather have a motocross arena for the 12 O'clock boyz to practice new tricks and make a show of it all

We already have Baltimore Bullets.

Oh wait not those bullets from people shooting each other.

Realistically, there are cities (i.e. Seattle especially) that will get a NBA team if there is another expansion.

Aside from the arena size I don't think the NBA is particularly interested in the area. They have philly and dc which already cover a majority of the viewership they would get from a baltimore team. With a baltimore team they would get more viewership but I imagine it wouldn't be massive as any basketball fans south of Glen Burnie are likely already wizards fans and any north of bel air can easily watch 76ers games. So baltimore would really have to push to get the NBAs attention and they would have to either move a team or add expansion teams and I don't think either of those are likely to happen in the near future.

Baltimore would support a winning team (maybe more hockey than basketball) for sure. We have a decent market size actually compared to some cities.

Where we would possibly have issues is selling the boxes and big season ticket packages to corporations. Those company bucks are what’s split already between DC and Philly more than the fans.

If a team did decide to move here, I would assume the current arena would only be temporary and contingent on building a 17500+ arena. That’s relatively common when teams jump cities or during an expansion.

Bring the Wizards and Caps minor league teams to Baltimore. It could both expand the fanbase for the teams and act as a proving ground for major league initiatives.

I disagree it's a packed market is all. The DC and Baltimore metro areas are incredibly affluent with a moderate amount of stuff they can spend their money on. This isn't like Florida where people completely ignore even good teams at time like the Heat and the Marlins. Baltimore has a pretty rich basketball history. Any team and owner would do well here

Don't really see how naming players matters. Most people who go to oriole and ravens games couldn't name you more than a couple players either. And I doubt after a decade most could name Baltimore Colts players when the ravens came back. To this day around Baltimore you see more bullets gear than Wizards stuff.

Nah. Vegas and Seattle are a priority and much more lucrative as a market.

Baltimore is not a lucrative market.

Man talking to people like you is insufferable. You say no one has seen a Baltimore Bullets team since 54 because you know nothing about Baltimores history with basketball and just googled it and saw the wrong info from the ABA team. And then instead of just admitting you were wrong still try to frame it like you know what you're talking about.

I think this is the most realistic path (maybe even to a pro team). We should get a Caps/Wiz minor league team and host a few pro home games during the regular and preseason. We tried to do this pre-renovation and the arena conditions were terrible.

With the Arena being redone I can see us getting a D league team eventually and possibly a minor hockey team. I loved going to Skipjacks games back in the day.

Yeah, this is exactly why the former Redskins/Commanders owner pushed so hard against Baltimore getting an NFL team back.

None of the current owners want to lose market share, and they're the ones voting on expansion.

Unless the new area has a 360 viewing experience, baltimore will will be ineligible to have an NHL or an NBA team. The old arena was considered a 180 viewing experience. The owner of the Wizards and Capitals, Ted Leonsis, said if our new area allows for it, he would gladly host multiple games for both teams in Baltimore every year. The NCAA also said they'd consider Baltimore for a sight for the tournaments as well.
