Hi, I am exploring the idea of moving to Baltimore when my lease runs out in March. I live over in Northern Virginia and am trying to find a new job. I've mostly worked in different libraries. I was looking at the Mt Vernon area since it's so walkable and transit friendly (no car) but I keep coming up against the Chasen properties. Are there any apartments in Mt Vernon not run by them? They look nice, but I've read some of warning comments. Where else should I consider?

The severe crime, you'll have anxiety about it daily. Google redline ...that's really gonna fuck everything up in nice neighborhoods

Not sure about Mt. Vermon, highly recommend checking out Hampden and Charles village too though! Some of my more favorite spots to hang in the city.

I wouldn’t check Chasen properties off your list just yet. I recently moved into one of them and have a handful of things to complain about, but I’m still relatively happy with my choice. 225 N Calvert apartments are also another option I’ve seen floating around if you’re looking in that area.

I love that area, has my heart. Lucky to live over that way for 5 years, 4 with my dog. The neighborhood has almost everything.

The WPM properties may be worth a try, by Mount Vernon Matketplace... lived in one and liked it. The Standard is an SMC property I think. I used to live in 225 N Calvert which is downtown (Greystar property) but kinda the same general area: also liked it, but it was ZRS Management most of my time there. I also lived in 2 PMC properties, but I have heard people at the one next door to The Standard is nice... I once lived in 301 N Charles and 300 Saint Paul. That's all I will say about those two.

I'll second @BaristaSamurai. Both Hampden and Charles Village (Abell, Harwood, Old Goucher, Homewood) are great. The Purple Circulator is free & frequent transit up and down Charles and Saint Paul, so it's easy to get to places along that axis. Station North and Remington are on the rise.
