Interesting that the rider share driver appears to be in on the robbery. Shouldn't be too hard to track this person down, no?

Welp, guess I won’t be using rideshare in Baltimore.

This is scary. I have been leery of rideshare since having a bad experience with Uber in Denver. Nothing close to this, obviously, but…

Unless you really do look at the driver’s picture vs the app’s picture, you don’t know who you are getting in to a car with.

Good points. Maybe.

Not a good look for rideshare companies who pride themselves on saying their system is full proof and safe. Beyond an app on someone's phone, getting into a stranger's car requires A LOT of trust on a societal scale that isn't set up for such. Kinda crazy we've talked ourselves into thinking this is okay instead of just investing public transportation like we've been doing for almost 100 years prior.

There are 7-8 robberies in the same incident on the Citize app.

1:44am: Police have received a 911 report of a man that was assaulted by a group while getting into his Uber.

1:46am: Police advise while at a stop, the group jumped out of a vehicle then proceeded to rob and assault the victim.

1:50am: Police report this is a pattern robbery.

1:51am: Police advise that this happened yesterday with three or four robberies.

1:53am: Police advise that a man poses as an Uber driver. When he pulls over to pick up the victims, three others appear and assault and rob the victims.

1:55am: Police advise the vehicle used as an Uber is a blue Prius. The vehicle following the Uber is a red vehicle.

1:56am: Police advised that this group also has done a robbery in Pikesville.

2:04am: Police are advising everyone to be aware. The group is reaching different districts, targeting different people.

5:09am: Police have found another victim of the heists.

5:10am: Police advise the license plate on the Prius is 1ER6522.

5:13am: Police advise that a woman was also robbed in Darien Road in an Uber at gunpoint.

Thanks for posting this. I saw someone claim they were kidnapped under similar circumstances earlier in the weekend while they assaulted him and forced him to pull out cash from atms. But im shocked that local news is barely covering this

Edit: Looks like the police finally confirmed at least 1 kidnapping

In all fairness people have been "hacking" for decades. That's a lot worse.

Yeah it looks like it’s finally being covered now. It was concerning me that as of yesterday afternoon there had been barely a single mention of the fact that multiple people were kidnapped over a 3 day stretch and robbed of their entire checking account balances at gunpoint and there was not even a police PSA warning about it

It drives me crazy. Im not some NextDoor addicted housewife posting & calling the cops because someone’s wearing a hoodie on my street in the middle of the winter. But i want to know if theres a string of robberies in my neighborhood before i find out the hard way

You can buy accounts of all sorts on various websites. Some don’t even bother with hiding on the darkweb. Everything from email verified Reddit accounts to gig work platform accounts are available for purchase.

Not blocking you, this post isn't even 24 hours old. Trying to keep informative information in here and not in multiple posts in the same day. There's a banner article on this too, but I think it's just a reprint of the CBS work (I think there's an agreement between the Banner and WJZ, IIRC, where Banner folks appear on tv and things like this get reprinted by the Banner):

This was posted on our Facebook Baltimore Uber/Lyft driver page…

Sooooo....my friend was told by her cop friend that on at least 2 occasions...the robbers called an Uber. Upon arrival the Uber driver was abducted and placed in the trunk of the vehicle. The robber then started accepting Uber rides using the drivers app and vehicle. Once he gets a customer in the car......he takes them somewhere and another car pulls up with several men in it. They take the customer to the atm and make them withdraw cash.
