Every time I’ve been to Clavel it’s been packed and difficult to get into but those have always been on weekends. I’ve been seeing someone for a while and am thinking of taking her to Clavel one night this week. Is it just always like that or are some nights better than others as far as wait time goes?

People start lining up for the 5pm opening.

My recommendation: go a weeknight, put your name in for a reservation, and either grab a spot at the bar (you can get food there too), or head over to WC Harlan for drinks.

Hope you live up to your username.

Put your name in & go to Fadensonen, Dutch Courage or WC Harlan for a drink. They specifically know people do this and will call/text you when your table is ready so you can head back.

For those who might not be aware, The Clavel folks also own Fadensonen and WC Harlan; hence the relevance. Dutch Courage is also great and close by.

You can also try Church which just opened on Maryland Ave near Fadensonnen/Sophomore

I get off work at 4:30pm on Wednesdays so I’ve had luck being there right at 5pm on Wednesdays multiple times and been seated without waiting. Usually just a party of 2 but twice with a party of 4.

Also you get happy hour before 7pm M-Th, $4 off margs and queso.

Dang now I want ceviche and margs. Their cilantro marg is delicious if you haven’t tried it.

Get there a bit after 7, it starts to clear out when their happy hour prices end.

Sounds like the pro move is to get happy hour drinks somewhere else then go to Clavel for food. Class act, you ;-)

It really hasn’t been too bad in recent times. It seems like if you get there before 6-6:30 you’re likely to get a table right away. People line up before 5 to get in but there’s still plenty of seats since they expanded the dining room.

on a recent Thursday around 6:30, there was a 90 minute wait for 3 people.

Yeah I said before that time. I’ve been there several Fridays over the past few months and people were being seated easily. I get there early when I can.

True! Misread it as "get there [around] 6-6:30"

Just went tonight and it wasn't too packed, plenty of space at the bar. Get there right at 5 and Its usually ok. Someone told me that if there is a long wait they went to get a drink at Harland and they will text you when there is a table ready.

I'll add my experience just as an FYI. I have gone twice on a weeknight recently but on the later side (7:45-8pm). Both times I was told that the wait would be 45 minutes. Both times I went over to WC Harlan to have a drink while I waited. Both times Clavel actually called me 10-15 minutes later and I had to scramble to pay my tab for the drink and get back over to Clavel. If you go at this time (around 8) you can just put your name in and it's only about a 10-15 minute wait.
