Speed limit of 25 is too high on all these residential streets IMO. Especially since people interpret "speed limit" as "no more than 10 mph over."

I live like a half block away and every time I walk through here I’m amazed it’s considered a “street.”

I feel like there is a rule that if someone’s front door faces it, then it’s a street. There is a similar “street” in the alleys southeast of the corner of 36th and Roland. All back doors = alley. Some front doors = street?

25 was the state law lowest minimum for Baltimore streets until this October when legislation Baltimore City DOT pushed for with Bikemore was enacted to allow us to set our own speed limits based on typology in the city complete streets manual.

I can't figure out where that is. And I know Berry St.

My favorite Berry St story was coming out of Wine Source and watching a guy get out of a white work van and clean his hands in an alley puddle.

That's a dirty job if that alley puddle is how you get CLEANER.

Just towards 36th from the elementary school on Chestnut on the Falls Road side.

I’m more impressed by how they’re checking speed by radar in that alley

I’m also impressed. The cops call that beat Oscar. None of them like to have to sit in a trash can with a radar gun all shift.

This is actually a great example of how speed limits aren't really relevant if your street design is right - people generally drive at a speed which feels right rather than to the legal limit, and this is narrow and uneven and cluttered enough that everyone will naturally slow down anyway. We should make more Baltimore car lanes similarly narrow and cluttered!

They built these little curbed islands near the curb on a road I frequent in AA county. There is a bikeable strip of road near the curb and the islands make the travel lane fairly narrow. With a third island in the center of the roadway. I was skeptical but it is astonishing how effective they are at slowing people down. I almost always see brake lights as people approach them. I say almost because occasionally someone approaches at an already reasonable speed and doesn’t need to brake.
