Good for them. Starbucks is in the business of serving overpriced coffee flavored milkshakes to basic bitches. The fewer in operation, the better.

The employees at the Nottingham store always seem overworked. Good for them.

N Charles St is my go-to and their staff is always undermanned for the crowds they see. Hope they don’t get the corporate fist for unionizing and standing up for themselves. Good for them.

Striking might actually work for them. Good luck replacing those employees right now

Didn’t Nottingham do a limited strike earlier this year? I feel like I read an open letter from them about it. They have that walk-up store less than a half-mile away at the movie theater, and it sounded like the two groups of employees get treated very differently.

At first I was like "Why do Starbucks employees need to unionize? It was an easy job when I had it 20 years ago."

And then I realized all of the ways that the company has gone all in on becoming Milk Based Fast Food: app purchases that overwhelm the physical space, drive throughs, the end of "the third place".

So good for them. Stick it to the man!

In the modern era, communication between higher ups and management and union organizers on the ground is lightning fast. Wherein the past strikes were much longer, and would maybe be a whole month of a city of people stopping work until the militia arrived, now they are, as historians say, atomized. Strikes must be done often to effectively communicate to management that the “new” conditions of employment are just as untenable as the last set of conditions. Bargaining happens more quickly than in the past, accelerating strikes and protests frequency.

"I don't like what this store serves so therefore nobody else should either."

BTW, the idea of the "basic bitch" is rooted in misogyny. It boils down to "if women like a thing, then it must be stupid."

Some picket lines were giving away (idk with purchase or not) a union-swag Red cup. The vibe is perfect.

Good for them. Today is a great day to do it too, since Starbucks is doing the free winter cups

starbucks has been non-union for all the years that they've been jacking their prices--and they'll continue to jack prices, because that's what corporations do simply because they can, and it maximizes profit, which is their one and only goal, but they'll just blame unionization for it so they don't get the heat for charging $8 for a drink that costs like 50 cents to make. somehow people keep falling for that line!

No labor is “simple” or else everyone would just choose that one occupation. A person working at a high-rise might be in a cushy chair but they might not be able to lay their child to bed etc etc

I don’t like their coffee generally and I’m too poor to buy it on the regular, but I’d still love to pay this place a visit anyway just to support the Union. Workers are people just like you and me.

Awesome. It’s a shame the Bel Loc location just got shut down under false pretenses at the sniff of unionization. I hope these locations get what they need to survive.

Sir/Ma’am, 20 years ago, you had to go in, wait in line, have your order made, and you went about your business. You didn’t have an app or 2 (cause you didn’t have a smartphone) to receive orders from on top of the physical line in front of you and the drive through going around the block. And it’s not just a Starbucks problem. It’s a problem with fast food in general now.

https://www.npr.org/2022/11/17/1137296597/starbucks-strike-red-cup-day

Basically, it's only a one day strike, and the NLRB's trying to get a national injunction to stop Starbucks from doing any more anti-labor actions. I'm not sure what the prospect is for getting a real budget through before the end of the session, but it certainly doesn't look rosy. Love stepping on rakes.

We need more unions. Even tech workers should be thinking about it seeing how things at twitter and meta are going right now

They are over thinking it. Make coffee at home, sell it outfront, make double salary

Idk what this means? Minimum wage is not a living wage nor should it be. Minimum wage is meant for jobs that require minimum skills. When you’re going to college and need beer money or retired and want to stay mobile. There are tons of jobs out there that pay above min wage however you have to adhere to a strict 9-5/5 schedule. With service work, you have the flexibility to work different hours but with that flexibility comes the trade off of potentially lower wages. I know a ton of restaurant works who make really good money and they bust their ass for it. Imo if you’re working for min wage in a restaurant you should only be doing so to learn the business and start your own thing…

Tell me you think people should accept indentured servitude without using those words exactly. Lol you are 100% wrong in everything you said. Maybe look up when, how, and why the minimum wage was instituted then come back and try to make some sense.
