There are a couple Smithsonian museums not in DC. Wouldn’t it be a nice gesture to have one of two new ones to be in Baltimore. Smithsonian needs to branch out of DC a bit more beyond the affiliates and establish full blown Smithsonian’s on in DC area in my opinion.

The B&O Railroad Museum is a Smithsonian affiliate and displays items on loan from them.

I think part of the joy of them is that you can go to see ALL of them at once. We have a lot of nice free museums already.

Can't really say that for Air & Space.

That's a little more of a unique situation though since aircraft are so large. Kind of hard to keep a ton of aircraft in a museum in downtown DC, even harder to physically get them there.

The rest of the museums by and large have much smaller artifacts and exhibits than udvar hazy does.

The new billion dollar renovation of the Air and Space museum just opened phase 1 of 3 and it’s pretty awesome so far. It’s right next to the Hirshhorn.

I hate that they keep the cool big stuff in Virginia hahah, but I don’t know the plans for the future space at the new spot. It’s massive.

The museum they have at Dulles is amazing though. The space in DC just wasn’t there. I saw a display they did there of The Enola Gay in the 90s. It was only part of the fuselage and some bits of the plane. It had been stored in pieces for decades. It’s nice to go there and see the whole thing in all of its glory. Plus they have an SR-71 and a space shuttle.

National Aquarium in Baltimore is promoted as the “official” national aquarium since the one that used to be in DC closed.

I can't remember where I read it, but from what I understand the B&O Museum in Bmore is the unofficial Smithsonian of trains, because they don't have the ability to display them all. I can't cite that source, so feel free to disregard.

Dream on. I grew up, just outside of DC. They think the sun rises and set in that town. Most DC area people are not from that area, so anything which happens outside of DC is off their radar as they are starry eyed about getting their pile of $$. They still are puzzled that Social Security Administration in just out side Baltimore, and at one time the regions IRS was in Baltimore. Most know Baltimore only as a name on I-95 highway sign, and a place which is about cops and robbers on TV.
