sweater. I was told rather recently with some venom that hockey players wear sweaters, not jerseys.

Well that’s not true. Hockey players wear jerseys, some people just call them sweaters because that’s what players originally wore in the early 1900’s when the games were played outside.

Eh, it’s called a sweater still in hockey. Like how in soccer it’s the top of a kit. The aggression is unwarranted but calling it a sweater isn’t wrong.
