West Baltimore, near the county line. Half of my neighborhood has been without power since around 10am on the 23rd, and as of this posting, my house is around 30 degrees. The BGE outage tracker just tells me they stopped working on the issue and have no idea when it'll be resolved. Anyone else still having problems?

I'm in Catonsville too. A tree fell over and brought down some powerlines (also landed on someones house, it was loud!) A few of my neighbors have also been without power. Crappy way to start the holiday weekend.

Our power came back but internet has been out for about 24 hours. Anyone else?

I can’t answer your question but there are warming shelters including at least one open overnight if you need to get out of the cold/have access to power. Good luck.

Power just came back, but for future reference are they cool with pets? I was thinking about that for me and my dog today, of the power didn't come back.

I don’t know. IMO the city has seriously dropped the ball here. Makes me very nervous about what would happen if a widespread disaster happens in the city.

I agree there should have been more communication - BGE did a heroic job getting most people restored pretty quickly and I know they couldn’t get out of area crews like they normally would. But we are still out and it would have been nice to know it would take this long- they were in our neighborhood Saturday and kept giving us times and then pushing them back. We stayed in the house that night and it was horrible. We’ve left, but still no real communication on when to expect it fixed. And the city/state should have been more proactive about getting people to emergency shelters- we are healthy, have high end sleeping bags and a fireplace- and somewhere to go when it is became clear it would be another night.

BGE is a private company, the city doesn't really have any control here. Trimming trees ahead of time, maybe, but when they're near power lines that also falls to BGE as preventative maintenance.
And I do think BGE could have been more proactive. I grew up in an area that got hit with hurricanes, the power company was out trimming dead trees and branches every spring.

I meant in terms of shelters/warming centers/communication with residents. But also agree that BGE could’ve done a lot more as well. Definitely a lot of worst case scenarios here but worst case scenarios in sub-freezing temps could equal death for more than a handful of people.

No power still in our neighborhood-north baltimore. We spent the night somewhere else but worried about pipes/radiators. No crew assigned yet :(. The outage map still showing a lot of outages/ feel sorry for the crews who were definitely out in the cold last night, and will have to work through the next few days….
StuntFace OP t1_j1j4h01 wrote
Yeah my biggest worry, and a big reason I stayed home, was the pipes. I have steam radiators so I wasn't so worried about those... I found out that the igniter on my gas boiler won't let me manually ignite the pilot though.

My friends from Oaklee near the county line are out of power, they are staying with me in my home in the Saint Agnes until it’s resolved. BGE told them they are waiting to assign someone. Their entire block is still out. Do you have some lace warm to go?

Oaklee is still out, my friends called again, no technician has been assigned yet.

Don’t forget to keep your faucets turned on slightly. It’ll help prevent your pipes from freezing and bursting.
The-Dane t1_j1k7epi wrote
I would advise this... turn of your water for your whole house.. and open all faucets and get as much water out of your pipes
The_MetalDog t1_j1n10on wrote
Yup. Power is still out here and has been since Friday morning. Not the greatest Christmas that’s for sure but it could be worse. Hope everyone else who is without power is safe and is doing the best you can.

On here in Pikesville but was out for about 4-6 hours yesterday and had a couple brown outs today. But we’re trying to do our part and keep our electricity usage to a minimum to ease the strain.

Same! Hopefully it stays that way, but I'm recharging everything just in case.

We’re out in Pikesville. Affects only 6 houses. No idea why we lost power. Not seeing any trees or lines down. Been out since 7pm Friday night. No crews assigned yet but BGE’s site states supposed to get power back by 11pm Christina Day.
Big issue is that of the 6 homes most are people over 75 years old with significant health issues. This happened in July to the same 6 homes. Back then it was a tree fell on a roof. Major home damage but fortunately no physical injuries.
Took a huge toll on that homeowner.
It takes a big toll on these people, who are trying to age in place and stay in the community.
The issue needs to be addressed more to make it possible for people to age in place well.

I am so sorry. I am clearly one of the lucky ones. I would like to think the years of living in very cold places and growing up in a very hard scrabble place and in somewhat rough conditions helped me... But it is very likely more of an 80/20 for luck split. Please go some place warm if you aren't staying warm.

Yup, in Catonsville. It’s been out since 11 yesterday but they haven’t even assigned a crew yet.
Good luck to you.
