I dunno what "asian dollar store" entails but there's a sweet little 'mall' underground in the Catonsville Hmart shopping center called BeSeTo. They stock mostly Korean and Japanese home goods and knick-knacks. Great place if you need a giant stainless steel prep bowl, or cute chopsticks, or scrubby washcloths, or... many other things! My husband's prized personal-sized Zojirushi rice cooker came from there. Definitely stocking stuffers-worthy.

Which H mart? Is there a secret entrance. I ask since I go to the Catonsville h mart and have no idea what this is

It’s a couple storefronts down in that shopping center! Marquee says BE-SE-TO. There’s a food court inside, but go down the stairs for the mall part. It’s kinda sneaky!

Start walking towards the Starbucks and a couple doors down there is what looks like an Asian food court. Go in the doors and there are stairs going down to the right

The Dollar Shop in Elkridge in the shopping center at Washington Boulevard and Montgomery Road is an Asian Dollar Store like you describe. I get unusual stocking stuffers there.

The Catonsville/Ellicott City H-mart and Lotte locations all have lots of imported Knick knacks, especially around the holidays.

Disagree, they have areas that sell everything from kitchenware to minor appliances to beauty and health products. Great Wall has Chinese medicine.

It's actually a fair request though. Almost all of the Daiso chains have a markup in the states. The prices aren't that much different than the supermarkets, depending what you're looking for.

I just moved here from Texas and we had Daiso stores everywhere. I just looked and it looks like the closest one is in NJ or NY. Not that it's helpful. I used to love going there and now am hoping they get one in state somewhere.

One of the very few things... that and decent Mexican food are about it for me.

So….I didn’t love Tex-Mex bc I grew up on real Mexican here and in NYC, but I do miss the Mexican food, street tacos- tamales. And I hate to say this…but Torchy’s.

Sounds like you're looking for a Daiso but there aren't any really closeby

Op, you're talking about Daiso, right? The closest is in NY. One in Manhatten, 2 in Queens. Also one in Edgewater, NJ next to Mitsuwa.

Worth the drive.

Yeah, basically. I was hoping there was an off-brand Daiso type place around here, and there seem to be a few options if not exactly a Daiso. They do have an online store, but nothing like walking around a place to get a feel for what they have. Dunno if I'm gonna make the drive up there just for these, but if one was say in Cherry Hill NJ or so I would since I'm in Philly a lot. But when I'm up there I'll check one of them out.

Ardmore PA, right outside Philly, has Maido, a Japanese grocery. If you’re already heading that way, I highly recommend it. It’s right next to the train station too, so you could ride there if you wanted.

Not all their prices are great, but they have tons of Japanese goods and food that I miss a lot!

You mean like a 100¥ store?

RoenTan t1_iyz5bh5 wrote

Pretty vague but I’ll give it a go, there is Rumi Life at Towson Center mall that sells cute Asian stuff, plushies, pens, slippers etc and there is Asian Food on York Rd that is like an Asian general store and wholesaler. They sell Asian foods and house supplies.
