My best friend has a fetish for butter. I'd like to get him some Bordier butter in particular, since that rises to the top of most butterholics lists. But I'd settle for some of the other, largely imported, brands.

Before I scope out the usual contenders—Wegman's, Whole Foods, Eddies—does anyone have any inside intel on the best butter source in Bmore? Specifically for Bordier?

There are a few places online, but many are "preorder" sites and will not guarantee shipping before the holidays. Was hoping to give my money to a local store.

Just outside of Annapolis is an imported foods store called Tastings Gourmet Market. It's a European style shop that focuses on imported gourmet items and when I was last there about a year ago had a good number of items of French origin. Perhaps give them a call...if they don't have the item, maybe they can point you to a local source.

I'd check Wine Source. And the main farmer's markets.

Fairly certain they do not have butter there

Wine Source does have butter in the olive/cheese upright fridge, but they don't have Bordier brand. They have a St Isle or something brand.

I mean if all else fails here kerrygold butter is fucking good.

Agreed, it is one of the best choices for "easily available" butter!

Yeah that was my thought. If you fail to find anything in time. I also will say if you have time. Wegmans in the fine cheese section has butters too. They have a truffle butter that is like. Omg. Clog your arteries and you don’t care delish.

Agree, it has become a go to for me for sure.

It's cookie season.

Butter like that is hard to find. I can barely even find Président anymore. But... You're inspiring me to leave the city to see what Wegmans is offering.

Gasp! Using expensive butter in cookies!? Good point though, supply and demand. Tis the season. Have a great holiday, baking or otherwise!

I splurge on cookies in winter. Try to use the best butter in things like sugar or butter cookies. You too!

I think Kerrygold at Trader Joe's tends to be the cheapest Euro butter I've seen. I haven't ever noticed anything more compelling at Wegmans and tbh I don't really ever go to Aldi or Lidl so can't speak for them.

Costco also sells Kerrygold, but IIRC their price isn't better than a supermarket sale price.

I will make an exception for TJs if they have it less expensively than other places. Guess I will add it to my county field trip list.

Weird kink, but to each their own.

I have avoided asking him if he ever takes butter into the bedroom. I don't want to know... where he spreads it is his business!

I don't know if they carry it, but I would ask Culinary Architecture in Pigtown. Whenever I've been looking for an odd ingredient or something fancy they've had it.

u/rob-cubed Seconding CA! And if they don't have something, try talking to the owner Sylva. She usually has a supplier hookup for like, basically any food item in existence.

Just go to Costco and pick out a box of Kirkland Signatures.

Wine Source carries Isigny St. Mere. DiPasquale's does too as well as (IIRC) an Italian butter from Parma whose name escapes me. Skeptical that anybody carries Bordier in the city bc I don't think they make remotely near enough for wide US distribution.

That was my fear, Bordier is the holy grail of butter. Thanks for the recommendations!

Possibly Le Comptoir Du Vin? They had a small grocery selection during the beginning of the pandemic-- it may have stopped now, but I see Normandy Butter on their menu... maybe if you contact the owner, they'll sell you some?

Did you ever find this? I am looking for Rodolphe le Meunier’s Salted Churned Butter or Echire butter...

I never found Bordier after calling around, but I should've asked what else everyone had. Echire is also an excellent choice.
