The majority of things I pull up I put in a trash bag for cleanup. The scooters are stood up next to the trash cans/scooter collection area for sorting.

Does someone pay u to do this? Why do u do it? It’s much appreciated!
TopS3cr3t OP t1_j1rrrze wrote
No payment. It’s all for fun and I get to hang out with my friends. But I might send a bill to Uber/Spin/Lime for the recovery 😂

How powerful are these magnets??

Who the hell goes magnet fishing in the harbor on a day as cold as today. Oh, I know that guy! How you doing?

U should publish the data on how many u pull out, with the goal of them paying u to stop publishing the data but keep pulling them out

I have a 1200lb clamp magnet (single mag), 3500lb 360 magnet , and 4250lb double sided magnet (two 2125 magnets)
The best one so far is the Boss 360 from Brute Magnetics, https://brutemagnetics.com/?ref=salvagearc

Nice! I thought about getting into magnet fishing this year and was just too busy to do it. Maybe this is the time….

That's awesome! I've done a bit of magnet fishing in the inner harbor but haven't caught anything yet. Any lucky spots you'd recommend?
BmoreCityDOT t1_j1vmcz8 wrote
Thanks! If you let the scooter company know (this one looks like a Lime scooter), they're required to come collect it. If they don't we do it and we fine them. 😁
TopS3cr3t OP t1_j1vnv3z wrote
Oh now we're talking! Do you know where I can report them? I put them back out where they leave the new ones
BmoreCityDOT t1_j1vovcp wrote
Yup! Within the app of the company. Or, you can always call 311.

Awesome thanks for the info!

Seems like Lime would be more likely to come collect them if BDoT hadn't kicked them out last June

We held a competitive application process for the dockless vehicle permit, all applications were scored based on a pre-set rubric, the categories of which were shared with the operators.
We had 5 applications for 3 available permits.
Lime’s application did not score high enough to be awarded a permit; Link, Spin, and Bird scored higher.
One contributing factor to Lime’s score is that in the past 2 years they have been issued ten times as many citations as the other operators combined.
They lost points on the application because of the citations. Those citations are only issued AFTER warnings.
Citations can be appealed, Lime has not opted to appeal any of them.
sjtmbg t1_j2a12qo wrote
Why only 3 available permits?
I'm just bitter because when Lime left I lost my job - I earned just about exactly what I pay in Balt City property taxes every month! Lime was the only company that used independent contractors, which is just perfect for someone like myself.
BmoreCityDOT t1_j2a1maj wrote
3 permits, so that way there is diversity without it becoming to encumbering. Having too many scooter types would be frustrating to the residents, making them sign up for multiple accounts.
Honestly, we're sorry that happened to you. Lime was given multiple opportunities to change, we just couldn't ignore 10x as many citations.
sjtmbg t1_j2a3sq5 wrote
Yeah, it's surprising to hear that. I took pride in the work and tried to deploy scooters the right way (I did occasionally see some in front of fire hydrants, etc, and I reported those to the company). From what I observe in south Baltimore, the poor deployments seem fairly evenly distributed among the companies, with Link seeming to be the worst of them.
BmoreCityDOT t1_j2a6olm wrote
Thankfully, we're doing tech trials which only allow scooter parking in particular zones. So far, the results are pretty good, and we'll be doing more of it.
You should know, we're super grateful for the work you did. Because of your work and others like you, scooter usage really took off in this city.
Standing__Menacingly t1_j2bd79i wrote
That is quite astonishing, and I'm guessing not something you just put on the end of a fishing pole lol. Is that literally 4250lb capacity? Like you could use it to fish out a car?
bawk_bawk2 t1_j1rgdel wrote
We’ll done! What do you do with things like this? I’m guessing you can’t put scooters in your recycling bin…
