Hey! M28 here and my fiancé, and I recently had transplanted from Florida to Baltimore (specifically Waverly) and we know absolutely no one! So I was curious as to great places to make friends and also fun/safe places for activities?!

Yo yo!!! We can be friends! 33/30 M/F in Waverly, send me a DM. I recommend the 32nd St Saturday farmers market, red Emma’s, Waverly YMCA, R house, Hampden rotunda / 36th st. A bunch of niche things like the station north tool library, Baltimore bicycle works, etc. Welcome to the neighborhood!!

There’s a banging Thai restaurant in Waverly at 33rd and Greenmount. It is called, appropriately, Thai Restaurant

Welcome! I transplanted here with my husband 8 years ago! We had a good time going to all the craft brew tap rooms. Union was our favorite, check that out. Now that we have kids our social outings have slowed down so I can recommend a ton of family friendly and kid stuff but if you're child free that won't help lol. But yeah, just going to local breweries and hanging out we met lots of cool people that way. Baltimoreans are a friendly folk for the most part and I think that they are very welcoming of transplants.

I will also suggest enjoying the area's natural beauty. In the city Jones Falls Trail and Ft McHenry are nice and in the county I like Marshy Point and Gunpowder falls (there are several areas, all worth checking out). Also I've had a lot of fun joining local urban foraging groups (again, having kids has slowed me down so I haven't in a couple years) and if you google that stuff should come up. I met lots of great people that way!

Welcome--a Florida transplant myself as well. From SoFL. I much prefer Baltimore :). Volo sports is a good way to socialize and get some exercise too. You can join different sports leagues and specifically slot yourself into a league based on skill levels. Something to consider. also there are a lot of running groups if that is more your thing.

Welcome

Also 28M living in Waverly with my fiancé. It's a great neighborhood.

We've got the farmers market which will start back up after winter. Plenty of restaurants, clubs/venues and bars near by in Charles Village and Station North. A community garden on Old York. The occasional show at Normals Bookstore. My Mama's Vegan is a great food spot right on greenmount. Cycling/ frisbee golf around the lake and tennis/golf in Clifton Park. There's also the historic Senator Theatre up in Belvedere with plenty of good restaurants/bars as well.

Greenmount and 33rd St/Old Main Street has gotten better over the past 7+ years since I lived there. There is the YMCA... Red Emma's has joined the number of new businesses on the Old Main Street... the Pakistani grocer and halal butcher across from Enoch Pratt Library (you'd miss it if you didn't know it was there) is a great place for Indian cooking ingredients and things like almonds, spices.

Welcome to Bmore! I'm also a Florida transplant, 37/M from Orlando. i just got back from visiting there. What part of FL are y'all from? Not as many things going on in the winter but lots of fun things to do throughout the city during Spring/Summer months.

Ah! I do need to get myself a new bike (had to unfortunately leave my old one in FL) but where about a does it happen?

Bike party crosses the city and the route changes everytime. It gets from a few dozen to a few hundred people and is a blast. Be on the watch though, some are inexperienced

Why was Tampa "getting insane"? Jc

Cookie0097 OP t1_j1vk9cq wrote

Just Tampa getting extremely expensive, the just shear amount of people that have moved into the city has almost made getting anywhere at all a freaking multi hour ordeal, also with rent and everything skyrocketing me and my fiancé just decided to buy a house here in Baltimore

themetalhawk t1_j1vkv0o wrote

Ah, that's fair. Baltimore is one of the few East Coast cities where buying a home remains affordable. My sibling is about to move to St. Pete from NYC and I get the sense that it is an area which is exploding. But on the other hand everything is about perspective... has to be less expensive than NYC.

Ehhhh not exactly at pete is super established and housing there can be insane , iv seen friends rent jump like a grand in 2 years, most to almost all the homes, there are just air b&b’s

I noticed the same thing in Orlando. Most of my friends there have moved to far out suburbs because they can no longer afford living in the city. Not to mention Traffic has picked up substantially there.

It’s nuts, and like no if real structural improvements are being made to compensate for it especially on the roadways
