Have you noticed that Penn Station is being renovated? More outlets are part of the upgrades, along with numerous other amenities for passengers.

Didn't realize they were part of the renovations, that's wonderful

They were removed/covered over fairly recently. The dedicated table with plugs was also removed. Supposedly this was to deter homeless people from camping in the station and charging devices. It’s possible there were other reasons as well.

My phone was nearly dead last time I caught a train there, so I sat on the floor like a goblin for like 30 minutes while I used one of the 2 floor outlets randomly located next to those marble columns.

I guess in the past I used the outlets at the Java Moon Cafe but it’s closed for renovations.

Related, pro tip for traveling- get one of those small Anker PowerCore chargers or similar. They are good for more than a few phone charges.

But actually don’t, as Anker is the company that owns Eufy, the homegoods manufacturer that was just determined to have been spying on us.

There’s going to be an entirely new station built on the other side of the tracks.

Well the existing station will be expanded over to there, not really an entirely new one.

Technically yes, but the historic building wont function as a train station. It's being converted to be exclusively office & retail.

Where did you see that? From my understanding it's the upper floors of the existing building that will change function and the ticketing counters will remain downstairs.

BBJ news articles and part of development forums.

Ticketing will remain downstairs while the new concourse is built across the tracks. Once it's complete it's all getting shifted to the new one. You will however still be able to enter the new concourse through historic Penn.
