My wife will be attending university of Maryland. I've never been to the city before, so any advice or input is appreciated. If we buy, we'll be 1st time home owners. We're approved for 250k. My primary interest would be an outdated 2/2 or 3/2 that I can remodel while living there and sell when she graduates. Any certain areas to avoid? any reccomend real estate agents?
Edit : School of medicine campus- near the Lexington Market

If she is going to be at the city location, you’ll be very close to Pigtown, Hollins Market, Union Square, Poppleton, Mount Clare. Each neighborhood has larger homes and you can scoop them up for cheap. I bought my 3bd/2ba in June for almost nothing and am almost done with my renovations.

While I hope you grow to love the city over 4 years and choose to stay forever, why are you deciding to purchase a home, for the first time nonetheless, and not have the flexibility to rent for a little to get the feel for what your needs are and other personal tastes? Owning for just 4 years that someone is in school certaintly is a lot to handle, and don't expect to get your money back or even make a profit because most house make a profit after 5-7 years at least.
Just things to keep in mind.
Also, to go off of another comment, be sure that you mean University of Maryland, Baltimore, NOT the flagship College Park campus.

Barre Circle/East end of Pigtown. TONS of medical students, professors, medical residents. Most students rent but some own. Ridgely's Delight is also within walking distance.

If you buy you can qualify for a first time buyer grant which will save you a decent amount of money. However when I used mine a few years ago it did come with a condition that I can't sell it legally rent out the house before 5 years. Not sure if you would consider staying an extra year if the same condition is applied to you
