Yemen & Gulf in Fells
Cozy Corner in Mt Vernon!! It’s a cash only restaurant run by a little old lady. Get the honey ginger green tea and any food item you get is fantastic
Garden American restaurant at Light/Fort. The pancakes and breakfast sandwiches are so damn good
G&M for a good hot dog or any other diner food. Looks like they recently moved from their long time spot on eastern to Philadelphia rd in white marsh.
Oh man, I was recording at Peabody one morning and randomly went here before hand. It was so good, the lady made our breakfasts to order and it was dirt cheap.
Right here. Authentic. Tacos packed with meat (they do NOT skimp). You can buy freshly made tortillas by the kilo!
Queen of Sheba in Highlandtown

Simply Marie's or Cafe Dear Leon
Kitsch Cafe
The Dog House on Fallsway
Joe Bennys little Italy. Thirty seat focaccia pizzeria with Joe himself cooking his legendary meatballs behind the counter. Food is incredible and the owner is a character needs his own reality show.
I'm sorry for these replies. I don't know what is wrong with the rest of these commenters. The answer is Ekiben. The answer is ALWAYS Ekiben. The rest of you...you bring shame upon your houses. Do better.
I really miss that no name shawarma place that was a little further up on light that was only open late at night.
Sugarbees in Charles Center, rasta pasta with chicken, and chicken pot pie are so comforting and good.
Burritos at the Cinco de Mayo Panaderia in Glen Burnie.
Tio G's empanadas in Lexington Market. They're made to order, eat them crispy and fresh.

Mi Comalito!
Sweet27!
Never On Sundays!
The Local Fry!
OG local fry when it was on cross street was definitely a hole in the wall, but being in the rotunda now I think disqualifies it lol

David and Dads Sunnyside cafe Pitamore
Pizza Mart
It wasn’t “no name” it was Petra Cafe
Easy big fella.
Penn & Pratt Restaurant -663 W Pratt (closes about 3 or 3:30pm)
Overlea Diner
Wymen Park Restaurant (under new name?)
Sadly we see the over all list is smaller than in the past. I think this type eatery is just as important as the more posh places.
Yamato Sushi
I actually think their pizza is only so-so, but my god their sandwiches are amazing.
Wyman Park is now Kay’s Place I think. I want to like it but the menu is kind of expensive and the portions definitely don’t match the price. I’m dying for a no bullshit in-and-out diner in the city though, I was hoping Kay’s Place would be the one
Came here to say exactly this, so take my award!
Since someone already gave the objectively correct answer of Ekiben, I would like to add Maria D’s in Fed Hill. The gyro platter and Old Bay wings are 🔥
While G&M restaurant on Hammonds lane is great,i think your referring to G&A Restaurant at New Forge rd and Philadelphia rd..i was searching all over and found it. remember reading an article somewhere about the move from Baltimore and was sorry i never visited while they were in the original location.
Is royal maroon still around by pimlico?
Green’s Carryout on Greenmount. Cash only, but so worth that small inconvenience. Breakfast platters are 🤌
Yes you’re right! I even googled G&M and G&A before commenting because I knew both were a thing, and I still wrong the wrong one haha
Oh yeah Petra! They’ve been closed for a long time so I forgot.
The corner bistro and wine bar just south of UMB. Pricey but some of the best food I’ve had
I don't know if it qualifies, but for me Mekong Delta- sure feels like a hole in the wall buried in the weird dark food court at Charles Towers. They now take credit cards by the way.
Taki's Carryout Restaurant, or on the sign out side, Taki's Pizza. Which oddly, sells no pizza. But go there, get the breakfast combo for under 5 bucks. Add onions to the potatoes. And I swear to God, if you hipsters start making this place busy, I'll be upset at you. But I'd be happy for the owners, Tina and Mo. Who are just the most loveable owner duo.
PS: buy your lotto tickets there. They get like 1% of the winnings.
I haven’t been in several years, but when I worked in the Curtis bay industrial area, paiks place has the best breakfast sandwich I have ever had. Nothing special, place is dirty, but the breakfast is the shit
Simply Marie's, definitely. Cafe Dear Leon has a line down the street half the time, not sure I'd call that a "grab and go" type place. (though it is awesome)
Great food, but not really a hole in the wall ever since their expansion and makeover. It's a better place to eat-in now.
Lol! I would not call Cafe Dear Leon a hole in the wall. Wish it were one for sure though. I would get soooo chonky on cheap pasteries!
NE Baltimore heads know the best hole-in-the-wall grab & go spot is GIL'S PIZZA.
NE Baltimoron here. Gil’s for pizza. Frank’s on Bel Air Rd for subs and cream of crab soup. Charcoal grill for pit beef (this is technically in the county I know).
Taqueria Vargas - best Mex food in the city IMO. Chuck's Trading Post in Hampden Whatever food truck is attached to Mobtown.
Pete's Grill on Greenmount Avenue.
Fuzzie’s Burgers
Pitamore yes! Wish that their two locations were a little more spread apart from each other though.
David and Dads is in an awesome location but the food is pretty meh.
Second Mi Comalito.
Chef Bobby D’s in Hampden (or Hoe’s Heights?) on Falls Rd. Seriously underrated soul food and the best mac n cheese in town.
This is the answer!
We don’t like holes at all.
Mi Comalito rules. Used to pick up lunch there all the time when i lived in station north
This place is great! Love a chicken salad here. The doorbell when you enter is goofy as hell.
Love this joint. The owner is a real dweeb for their craft. I walk up from Remington through the Stony Run trail, it makes for a nice morning.
Queen of Sheba in Highlandtown.
Maria D’s is my go to for lunch time slices
Swallow at the Hollow In Belvedere.
Definitely a better business move to spread them apart
Taste This
Overlap of Hampden and Medfield for those who are curious. Residents of surrounding streets typically say they live in Medfield, though the communities’ boundaries overlap and both include 40th and 41st St west of Falls. Fun little Bmore quirk.
Im expecting to get downvoted like crazy. But I find Ekiben decent but also very overrated. In my experience their chicken was greasy and tendon-y, and the sandwich was overall hard to eat. But I know I’m in the minority so I’ll take the abuse lol.
I also feel this way about BRD but maybe that’s for another thread….
It took me a while to remember tbh lol. I wonder if that Israeli dude who owned it still loves trump? He was so excited for him to be President back in like 2015
Haha, as long as you understand that you are objectively and unforgivably wrong.
Lost in the 50's Diner on Harford in Hamilton. I'm obsessed with this place.
Oooooh - I was thinking about the literal size of the place as a "hole in the wall" rather than popularity - oops lol
Big Bad Wolf’s House of BBQ in Hamilton! It’s insane how ridiculous their grilled chicken sandwiches and Mac and cheese are. I mean all of it is fantastic but those two are big stand outs.
Ribaldi's in Hampden/Roland Park. Best pizza stupid expensive for it's hold in the wall setup...lol
It rotates too - for a while there was an excellent BBQ truck there as well.
Jon Kak!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great one....barely in the city but this counts!!!
love Never on Sundays, used to get it all the time when I lived in midtown! Local Fry is great too along with Mi & Yu which is on the same strip
Penn and Pratt is so underrated. Great crab cakes
Lost in the 50s Diner in Hamilton. Cheap, fast, friendly and DELICIOUS. But they are closed sun & mon and only open until 4 every other day.
I live around the corner. What's good there?
Annabelle Lee Tavern in Canton. Great Maryland/Baltimore/Edgar Allan Poe decor and the food is 👌👌
El Paraiso in Reisterstown is the best Hispanic food I’ve ever had
Tio G's just opened a second location at R House too!
Rita’s Place
Andy nelsons
They do have awesome food there for sure
Frank’s has the best cheesesteaks in the city
