I have photos of tags, let me know. Guy just rolled out of the 7-11 right in front of me and hit a orange bmw X1 in the right lane and then rolled on like nothing happened.

that intersection is such a shit show.

I think 36th & Hickory takes the cake, though. I feel like a solid quarter of the cars going through that intersection completely ignore the stop signs and pedestrians.

The intersection at Boston st and Ponca, only minority of drivers seem to understand the lanes kinda shift as you go through the intersection and ontop of that like every 3rd car drives straight through the right turn only lane. I'm amazed there isn't an accident there every time I get to that chaotic mixing bowl.

So glad u got all the info! I'm absolutely sick of hearing about all of these damn hit & runs, especially fatal, in this city and in this state. From my pov, it seems the amount of them has significantly gone up over the past few years. This too has to be a reason why so many are experiencing inflated car insurance rates. Second to that, these are lives that are being impacted, some loosing their lives. To go on about your day as if nothing transpired, is the equivalent of a person who shot someone and is on the run.

Why are hit and runs increasing?
bmore t1_j32a5qs wrote
For starters, Baltimore Police do not investigate hit and runs without uniquely identifiable striking vehicle information and a clear description of the driver. People know this and know they have a strong chance of facing no repercussions if they flee.
skullduggery38 t1_j32buxe wrote
The usual reason for a hit and run is that punishment would be more severe if they stayed. Like if they're impaired driving etc.

I'm also thinking of an increase in folks driving without insurance too. In addition to what others have mentioned.

Maryland doesn't require yearly inspections on their vehicles combined with no traffic enforcement means you have a lot of uninsured and unsafe vehicles driving around the city. The number of hit and runs are a bit of a consequence of that. Moving from VA it seemed insane that y'all get your car inspected once and then that's it other than a emissions test every now and again.
mindblowningshit t1_j32nqdl wrote
Lol yeah I think VA rules are stricter? But again I'm not sure because I've heard that you don't have to have insurance in order to get ya car registered and on the road in the state of VA hence another reason why we are seeing so many VA tags in Bmore these days. Ive also heard that yall pay taxes on yall cars every yr? Idk what's true but if you provide some insight that would be great.
Bonzi777 t1_j32plhq wrote
Yeah in Virginia you have to get emissions once a year and safety every other year. And the safety inspections are no joke.

For hampden, I think Union and Buena Vista may be worst offender for running stop signs.

Report it to the police. They might have a report from the BMW.

Or their car is unregistered, they don't have a valid license, or if they simply think they can get out fast enough that they can get away with it

He probably called it in stolen. That’s what happened with me last summer. Police won’t do shit.

That intersection sucks. Almost got hit last night while I was crossing 36th, I had the crossing signal and someone turned right from falls and almost hit my wife and me. I yelled out hey what the fuck and she stopped her car and started yelling like I did something wrong. Typical.
Timid_Teacher t1_j356ps4 wrote
Yep, I walk that way every day. We probably cross paths regularly…haha. I have such a hard time getting people to stop for me on 41st going from Hampden to Medfield. Ugh…there’s a crosswalk and there was speed cameras up, but they mysteriously disappeared.
Timid_Teacher t1_j3576k0 wrote
That’s a common occurrence in Hampden, unfortunately. I’ve been ignored or yelled at way too many times.
On the other hand, I saw the local drug abusers walking down the middle of Union Ave tonight (in the road) and cars were (understandably) honking at them. They then proceeded to cuss all the cars out — despite being in the wrong. They were both clearly really high, but the drug users in Hampden make me really frustrated.
PoopIsAlwaysSunny t1_j35sdgn wrote
Yeah I think we’ve had this convo before how we’re neighbors. I don’t even try to go to 41st and def don’t cross it.
