These are known as "Swell Front" row houses. As the front of the house bulges out. The corbeling out (bricks stepped out) along the top cornice of the building is very common in Wash DC houses, not so much in Balt.

Thank you. I learned that corbeling was often used in 16th century Italian construction. Went down that rabbit hole.

Yes. Lots of young kids on that block. Probably on the to do list somewhere. I’ve thought about offering power washing to people in the neighborhood in exchange for a $? donation to BARCS or something. My partner thinks that’s silly though.

But you were. I am going to ask around some more. I can get those steps looking like new in many cases. I don’t think that I would have to suggest a minimum donation. People would be so happy!
