Looking to move to Baltimore in the fall. I’ve been looking in Medfield, but does anyone have other suggestions for safe areas that are good for young professionals and eventually families? I’m cool with a townhouse, would like something that’s a short drive/Uber from most Baltimore destinations, and within an hour of Ft. Meade. Ideally would like to stay around 300-350k

I like living in Medfield. Never had anything bad happen here. It’s super quiet.

Seconding that. I’ve lived in Bolton Hill, Downtown, Belvedere, Charles Village, and Mt Vernon. Medfield is the best, hands down. It’s quiet, safe, central to transportation, central to bars and shops, and most folks are homeowners, not renters. Good luck!

Hamilton is up and coming with families. It has a nice Main Street and a lot of the houses have yards.

In the same general area, check out Lauraville and Arcadia/Beverly Hills too. Lots of good home options within the $300-350 range. It's about 15 minutes from downtown, and about 35-45 from Ft. Meade (depending on if you take the tunnel or not).

If you are working at ft. Meade look in fed hill, riverside, and locust point. It's a 30mn drive with traffic and those areas are all pretty great for walking around. Those are all basically off of 95.

I cannot stress enough how those are the places you should be looking at if you are working at Meade. Latrobe park is also great if you have young kids or dogs.

Important to note, one reason these are so great is because they are the correct side of both tunnels. Canton and fells Point are also great, but you'll be paying $6 a day tolls to get to fort Meade. From Federal Hill or Latrobe, you don't need to go through the tunnel.

I would add pigtown to this list for the same reason. It's up and coming but not yet as expensive

Im okay with a townhouse, don’t want to spend more than 400k.

Anything else? Like what’s important to you? Lifestyle? Location of work/commute?

If your commute is important being in the southern half of the city would be beneficial. Locust Point is pretty nice and there’s a lot for sale in the 400k range.

Woodberry gives you all he same amenities/benefits as Medfield (including the school) but with a little more green and space than Medfield. (NOTE: Woodberry is the whole neighborhood and not just the sexy duplexes and townhomes near the Woodberry Kitchen or whatever it's called now).

I'd also consider Ednor Gardens-Lakeside. Big caveat: while it's super walkable and has several bus lines, it IS 100% residential so you will have to bus/Uber/drive most places. If you're looking for a place where you can walk to restaurants/bars, keep on looking.

The payoff, however, is a very quiet and safe neighborhood with a mix of old school residents/families/young professionals who mostly own rather than rent. You've got two grocery stores (Lidl and Giant) that are a 5 minute drive or 10-15 minute walk away, plus Waverly Farmers Market is nearby and is open all year. The Waverly YMCA is also super close. Houses here will easily fall in your price range, if not under (Zillow currently has 4 listings right now with the highest topping out at $240k). And as a bonus, you've got Lake Montebello and Herring Run Park close by.

Roland park. Loyola? Bolton hill. Somewhere closer to Towson. Mount Vernon can be iffy. Johns Hopkins (near 33rd street campus)

Rogers Forge is a decent area with town houses. Lots of families.
