I am very curious on yalls thoughts on this book. I read They Both Die at the End and thought it was sooo amazing and it made me cry a lot but the prequel is just hard to get through. I struggled to read it and I dont plan on finishing it atm. Literally the relationships in the first book are so good and well written but this one the relationship feels extremely forced and weird and awkward. I do kinda like the extra perspectives than just the main characters but its still not enough.

Like you I loved the first book. But I struggled with this one. I thought I might come back to it in a while, when I'm in a different frame of mind, to see if I apprecite it more.

If you don't mind me asking, how often does revisiting work for you? Generally I've found if something doesn't grab me it probably just isn't for me.

It does work about half of the time. I tend to read genres - so I'll read a lot of Sci-fi for a while, then switch to detective mysteries, or historical etc. Or I'll work my way through all of an author's works if I like them. So when I saw 'First to Die' at the library I grabbed it as I had liked the first book, but I'm sort of in the middle of re-reading all my Terry Pratchett books, in order, so I had the wrong mindset.

Of Adam Silvera's books I've liked about half of them, still have to read 'What if it's Us', so I'll get that and 'First to Die' when I know I'm in a more receptive mood.

Surprised at all the other comments because I really enjoyed the book and finished in one day, I think what I liked most was the slight sense of mystery around which would die and then whether they both would die

I don't know if it helps that I haven't read the first book in a while

I'm surprised this even exists. I guess the original sold well? I haven't got this so I can't comment on liking it or not, maybe it just feels like a cash grab? The author didn't put in as much effort? Just a guess as to why you feel that way or maybe it's more if the same?

I listened to 10 mins of the audio and got bored but I thought it might just be the narrators voice I didn't like
