Favourite Rothfuss book? I think name of the wind is best by far. It had its problems for me and these were amped up in book two. Either way don't let me hinder your enjoyment. If you love it that's sweet.

Rothfuss only has three books the name of the wind it's sequel and a prequel.

The Adventures of the Princess and Mr. Whiffle: The Thing Beneath the bed.

I think it's an adult picture book or something I don't really know. I think he did a comic too. But, yeah three conventional novels.

I love this book too, and it breaks my heart that every time it comes up on Reddit people invariably need to complain about book 3 or the chapter or Pat being mean to someone. I find the series beautiful, and not being able to talk about it on Reddit is kind of a bummer.

Well we can talk about it. I’m at the part where Kvothes parents just died and I’ve never been explained the shock and trauma that comes from an event like that so well.

It's always hard on a reread to get to the part where Arliden sings the song. But you're right, the time in the woods with his lute is pretty magical in a rather somber way.

What an incredible accomplishment kingkiller is already. Listening to these audiobooks three times now has been a real joy. I really like the characters he created. And, I liked Kvothes parents. Fine people… for Edema Ruh.

These are great books. Beautiful books. I’ve read 1 and 2 over and over. I’d love to see a book 3, but the author has given us so much. He owes us nothing. Enjoy!

I loved this series and the Novella about Auri was so good too ! I've never read anything like this series

OP should be more careful, but this part isn’t that big of a spoiler. It happens early, and because of the book’s framing story the reader knows a lot about what’s coming anyway.

I bring this up every time this series is mentioned, but my biggest problem with this "trilogy" is that it isn't written like a continuous story, it's written like he wanted to turn it into a TV series. It's sooooooo episodic (or "side quests" as you say) instead of an epic narrative. Reading about Rothfuss shopping it around constantly makes me think that he purposely wrote it to turn it into television, and since he isn't getting a deal, he's not going to bother finishing it. It's an interesting story, but it grates on me a bit.

I like it that way. But I wouldn’t call it necessarily episodic… I feel as if the author had a lot of creative ideas that might have no flowed correctly if he just made super long chapters. This way he was able to give us his true story in it fullest without leaving out parts, like chapters that lasted only 4 pages.

2 novels and a novella

Its a style of writing that's not everyone's cup of tea. The short chapters are meant to keep the narrative flowing and be a book that you can keep picking up. I believe Rothfuss said he starts his novels with a detailed outline, so it seems his writing process is expanding his outline into scenes, combining those scenes into chapters, and then connecting them to the overall narrative.

Personally I love the way its structured.

I just finished it today and am so mad he hasn't finished the trilogy. Don't read it if you are like me and can't stand to leave something unfinished. I didn't know going in that it was unfinished. I just assumed it was a 2 part books. Now I want to cry thinking about it.
