JP came up in another subreddit. Someone recommended this article that I can't recommend enough.

https://www.currentaffairs.org/2018/03/the-intellectual-we-deserve

It's lengthy but does a great job summarizing what JP is. I tried reading 12 rules cause my cousin really liked JP, I couldn't get past the lobster stuff and couldn't understand what the fuck is he talking about.

The more I learn about JP the more I understand how people think they're smart cause they read the cole's notes but actually haven't done the heavy lifting to understand the subject matter themselves.

My cousin will mention Nietzsche's ideas but I understand it's all dangerously meditated through JP. I've tried reading Nietzche, it's hard stuff and you need a background of ideas.

Curious what you're looking for from 12 Rules because I could probably recommend a 100 different books of better quality.

Mind sharing some books which are better, cause I've tried to read 12 rules and shit it's soo freaking complicated nothing seems to add up.

What type of books are you looking for? Something in self help? Off the top of my head in that genre Atomic Habits might be a good start.

Ok fair enough, you want something prescriptive to tell you how you should conduct yourself? Do you mind telling me a little about yourself?

I think the problem with telling people what they should do is that there is a certain amount of survivorship bias, this worked for me kind of stuff.

The problem that just because something worked in the past doesn't mean it will work again. Success, especially someone like JP is like winning the lottery, and then he sells his bs.

If you give me some background information about yourself, or if you prefer in my dms, I can orient you towards some thing to read that might actually help you out.

Apologies, but your post does not contain enough for people to engage in conversation. Do you have something else to say about the book that you could edit into the text? Let me know if you edit it and I will reinstate your post.

Or, if you would prefer to share quick/brief reactions to a book you are currently reading or recently finished, you can comment in our weekly What We're Reading thread, accessible from our header atop the sub. Your book may even appear in the sub banner! Thank you.
