I read the first one(Norwegian and Swedish are very similar to Danish) but i was underwhelmed. That being said, the series often receives praise and i heard the first is one of the worst in the series.

I haven't read the first two. I jumped around the series a bit. I started with The Snowman, then went to The Thirst and Knife, then went back to The Redbreast and went on from there. The Redbreast through The Devil's Star was a fantastic arc.

Not exactly police procedural but adjacent. I absolutely love the Charlie Parker series.

There is an element of supernatural in it but at its heart it’s a straight up hard bitten PI series.

Ed McBain's 87th Precinct series is good. Peter Robinson's DCI Banks series is excellent and Barry Maitland's Brock and Koll series is outstanding.

Funnily enough i was looking up the 87 precinct series last night. I'm kinda put off by how long ago it was published. The inspector banks series is one of the frontrunners to get started on, along with rebus

Thomas Harris’s Hannibal Lecter series - FBI investigative and procedural bits are fantastic (if perhaps a little dated by now).

The Inspector McLean series by James Oswald.

Police procedural which has a supernatural undercurrent mixed into all the cases. McLean is a very grounded detective who doesn't really put much stock into the supernatural despite the fact that, if the series were actually fantasy, he'd totally be ~the chosen one~ so I thought that was neat.
