I am currently making my way trough "Salambo" by Gustave Flaubert after seeing it recommended on a German site about the history of mercenaries. I am a bit dissapointed that the book seems more imaginery than really historic, but it is certainly gripping and fascinating, maybe thats simply an issue that arose because it was written when archeology was still in its infancy. Whats your experience with the book?
