Hello. Per rule 3.3, please post book recommendation requests in /r/SuggestMeABook or in our Weekly Recommendation Thread. Thank you.

I want to say the Dark Tower series. It kind of touches on a few of the things you didn't want, but not exactly. It has a few horror elements at times, but it's much more fantasy than horror. Like a weird mix of Lord of the Rings and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.
Also read Different Seasons. It has 4 novellas. 3 were made into films (Shawshank Redemption, Apt Pupil, and Stand By Me).
I have that on my shelf already (bought it before The Long Walk) and I don't know if I want to read it right now because it's lowkey scary how the plot is close to reality...
Ah yes I've heard about the Dark Tower series! There are 8 books though, I don't know if I can get through that lol.
I love Shawshank Redemption (the movie)!!! I didn't know it was part of a collection but I definitely now have something in mind, thanks!
You can easily skip one of the Dark Tower books (The Wind Through the Keyhole). I like it, but it's really just there for world building. It really has nothing to do with the plot.
Yes...it's pretty close to what we are seeing. An apocalyptic view of how humans ruined their existence...sound familiar?
Most of King's writing has at least "bits" of horror.
I really enjoyed the Dark Tower series...it's all based on a central character. Some gore...but no real horror. Wolves of Calla gave me goosebumps.
I would try this series!
Rolland is a great character...imho
