Physical books are more durable than an ebook device. But the ebook device can be replaced without losing your ebooks, and it takes much less room. Also, it lets you use the font size you prefer.

Regarding licensing vs ownership, to hell with that. If I buy an ebook, I own it. The first thing I do is remove DRM with Calibre and save my own copy.

Good point. Smart thing to do. Is Calibre a mobile app or can you download physical copies straight to a laptop/desktop?

Calibre is software for Windows/Mac/Linux. You download the ebook file, use calibre to remove any DRM and convert it to your preferred format, and then you can save your copy wherever you like. I always keep a copy of my books in my PC and another in the cloud. You can also use Calibre to send the ebooks you want to your (preferably eInk) device.

You think physical books are more eco conscious because they don't use electricity to run?

The fossil fuels just to transport a copy of one book you bought is probably enough to power your eReader for a year of daily reading.

No, I do not think they are more eco conscious. My point was that overall I am but books are one thing I choose not be hyper conscience about. Probably worded my point poorly.

Ebooks all the way for me. I love tech, and I love books, so perfect combo. And they take up less space. I keep a stash of top paper books in case civilization ends.

Lol the reality is if we are screwed on electricity charging my ebook would be low on the list but a tiny part of why I prefer the physical copy is that in the off off off chance we are in a catastrophic situation and I for some reason have down time I’ll always have the physical books… also kindling lol

Read an interview about people who were caught up in the siege in Sarajevo. They said the little things like having a book to read made all the difference. Hence my stash.

Although e-readers have lots of useful features, there’s nothing like a real book! Paper books have solid physical substance and heady scent, are soft on the eyes and aren’t complicated to operate. They are so much more satisfying than e-books.

I do love the feel of a new book, but ebooks are pretty handy. I can read on my kindle no matter what light setting I’m in, can lay on my side, change the font size and type (even have one for dyslexia), they’re super lightweight and easy to hold, small and I can toss in my tiny crossbody purse. Plus there are so many free or cheap ebooks. And the ability to borrow instantly from your library. I never thought I’d love one but I do. Mine stays charged for days even if I read a lot. I also don’t have a lot of room for storing physical books so the kindle is nice. I still buy books if I already know I love them or it’s one I want to keep, but otherwise I just use my kindle and borrow from the library.

Ebooks are a great resource fir many reasons, but you need electricity. With a book you need only light.

Printed books must endure for humanities sake

Ebooks for me. I have no more room for physical books and it's much easier on my eyes to be able to make the font bigger.

Hi there. This subject has been very popular in the past. Please use reddit search and/or check the /r/books/wiki/faq.

I know a lot of people say there’s nothing like the feel of a physical book but I love the ease of handling an ereader. Super easy to hold with one hand and from multiple angles. My paperwhite fits super easily into my pocket and even if it doesn’t I have the Kindle app on my phone. I’ve found that I get annoyed these days when I “have” to read a physical book instead of using the ereader.

I believe there's no "right choice". Is whatever suits you and makes you feel comfortable. In the last 5 years I have move 6 times! even two of those I moved to a different country, so there was no chance for me to keep physical books when trying to put my life and in the smaller number of boxes.

That's the reason I love my Kindle, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate a physical book. Is simply right for me.

Plus, I don't like to own books. Once, a girl that I was dating with had a copy of Harry Potter that she wasn't able to sell to a library because "it wasn't valuable on its own". We sat down in a cafe, she wrote a little note and left the book in the table when we left. "It will be better with someone that can read it that stored forever in my room", she said
