Im aware some people love this and some people say this is the only good one of his books

But Wicked is terrible. Im not really sure how someone read it and said lets make a musical! But the same can be said for Victor Hugo's Le Miserables but I liked that book. I had little empathy for Elphaba. I wanted to and at times I rooted for her but in the end Glinda, Elphaba and Nessa Rose were all pretty terrible with Glonda being the best of them. I wanted better closure and someone better to root for. I felt more empathy and rooted harder for Walter Wight and hes pretty deplorable. Im sad now 🥺

Not everybody is going to like certain works of art. You are fully justified to not like that book. I've read it, and I thought it was OK. My daughter read it and loved it. I'll use the movie Star Wars as an example. Many people love the original movies, but some (a minority) absolutely hate them. That's OK. Different strokes for different folks.

I bought tickets to the musical, years after I'd first heard of it and wanted to go. Then I bought the book and feared I'd wasted a lot of money. I loved the musical, and it put the book into perspective.

Some authors are generally loved, others have just a very few fans, and most fall in the middle. Some authors can turn nothing into a joy to read and others ruin an amazing tale with excruciating story telling. I feel...whoever wrote Wicked falls into that last category. Stephen King too, though he is generally well regarded.

It's like tiramasu. My husband adores it. I like the flavours but gag at the thought of soggy biscuits/cake. I'd happily make tiramasu inspired cookies, cake, ice cream, fudge, cheesecake, coffee syrup, pavlova.... but my husband is a purist and only wants the liqueur soaked spinge fingers etc. On the very rare occasions we make it out for dinner, he chooses it for desert and I chose something else.

Books are like that....and also, books are terrible when they are soggy, so is cake. My point is proven.

Thats true. I agree with that but im the other side of fhe fence with stephen king and that's okay but I used to dislike him and now have become an apologist. I should so try tiramasu flavored things. I like pumpkin flavored things except pie so I probably like taramisu inspired things. And I really am glad the play Wicked exists. I don't think ill try one of Gregory Maguire's other books.

I feel like if I read this before I saw the play I would have a different opinion. I mean I read the whole thing so I could say its objectively not horrible. I just wanted an ending more like the play and a back story with more empathy. I did like the middle bit in Oz that was good.

I was just discussing Stephen King with someone yesterday and realised I've turned a corner with him. I used to love his tales, hate his story telling, but now I have no desire to be scared anymore. The angst is over!!!!

My sister bought me the book years ago before it was a musical. I couldn’t get past the first few chapters. I do like the musical though
