Spoil books for myself

Started reading a new, long fantasy series and was super into it. I look up a character’s name and THERE’S A SPOILER SAYING HE STABS THE MC IN THE BACK (i mean literally he hugs her and drives a knife into her back while she’s not looking). Then gives away how the war ends. Perfect. I go on pinterest and mf shows me major spoiler fanart as soon as I open it.

I guess I learned my lesson, but it’s so frustrating when I just want to look up something as simple as a character’s name and it gives away the entire series. Thanks google.

Have you had this problem? Are you able to avoid it?

I have had that problem and the only way to avoid it is to resist Google searches. Just don't do it. It's not worth it.

Yes! And in the introduction of the books themselves not even on the Internet! >:(. I skip them without guilt now, almost as a sort of revenge.

I've never really cared about being spoiled. The road that leads to the spoiled bit is just as interesting as the spoiled bit. So I'll just google if I feel like it.

I like being spoiled about how relationships advance, or small plot points if the story is lagging, but getting told the character literally stabs the other in the back was a devastating spoiler to me because that would have shocked me a lot

I’ve done this so much with both books and TV shows. I like knowing background of characters so I will search to read about it instead of finishing the book. Then regret it because I come across some type of spoiler. Also when I’m reading a series and stop in between books, either due to it being a current series or I haven’t gotten the next book yet, and I need a refresh on characters. Normally that’s easier to avoid spoilers but still can happen.

That’s happened to me but with TV shows when trying to look stuff up. My one friend says she only buys a book if she reads the first couple pages & the last couple pages to see if she’ll like it & im like ummm so you’re okay with spoiling the ending?? I could never

If I flip over books, I usually get, "Famous Person thinks this book is ☆☆☆☆☆!" Followed by, "Author's Mom likes this book! it's the best s/he's written so far." "NYT Reviewer agrees with Author's Mom: Best s/he's written so far." 🤷🏻‍♀️

Because of how sensitive I am emotionally, I need spoilers for tv and movies. I don't look them up for books online but I do have a way of getting a spoiler for the books. hehehe... I read the last few pages of the last chapter, if I want to know if the intensity in the book will die down and get better. If it does not let me know, it has me reading further up that last chapter. It has helped me decide at the bookstore if I want to actually buy that book or not. I only do that though if the outside cover text, inside cover text, first chapter or pre-story summary do not clue me in about if the intensity the outside or inside cover text tells or hints at will be okay or if there's a stressful buildup between characters in the first few chapters that I just have to know if there's a resolve to. You know?

I just started the final book of Hilary Mantel’s Wolf Hall series and wondered if they were going to make another series of the TV adaptation. The article I clicked on spoiled the ending of the book in the opening sentence.

I know this is based on real people and events, so I guess they considered it common knowledge, but I didn’t bloody know!
