The Green Mile isn't scary. I don't mean that like I'm a hardo who just wasn't scared.
It's just not a horror story. It's more of a tragedy with a little bit of the supernatural. You will cry though.

Green Mile is one of King's better storys, i really enjoyed it. While it has some horrible scenes, i found pet semetary & Misery much more gruesome. Green Mile is however kind of moving, if you know what i mean, and f*** Percy

Well, The Green Mile is more fantasy than horror. It's a wonderful book though. Ienvy you being able to read it for the first time. For straight out horror go to King's earlier works like Carrie, Salems' Lot, The Shining and Christine. All relatively short works for King but he packs in the punches.

I’m a bit hesitant to go there. Years ago the facebook fan page was toxic, and I couldn’t help coming to the conclusion that way too many King fans are just dicks. You couldn’t say anything without an an obnoxious opinion being thrown at you. Maybe that’s just facebook though.

My favorite Stephen King books were probably The Shining and The Dark Half. It's been a while since I read anything by him, though. Maybe I'll check out a copy of what you just read at some point.

I just read The Dark Half again, because maybe not being 13 it would have a different feel. I still loved it. Definitely one of my favorites.

It really is a trip, because there's no way I picked up on some of the subtle things, less of a problem with King. But I read all the Hemingway we had in the house very young, I had NO idea what they were about, but I still loved them.

I have one book by Hemingway which is The Garden of Eden, but I haven't finished it yet. I read sort of slowly these days. I might collect more Hemingway eventually, however, the next book I plan to order is going to be a memoir by the guy from Xiu Xiu. He's not charging much for it and it might already be sold out, though.

It's hard to do without giving away spoilers! It's about a family with children and a cat moving into a home on a busy road traveled by speeding tractor trailer trucks. The property is near a pet sematary (misspelled by the children who made the sign) filled with pets killed by the road. I grew up right off of the road that inspired the book. ❤🐾

The Green Mile is good and sad - it’s worth noting that it was originally written as a Serial, with King releasing short segments of it periodically, before he even knew how it was going to end. For that reason, reading it all in one go as one novel resulted in a slight pacing issue for me, but it’s still a good story.
Like others said, King doesn’t just write horror, and The Green Mile isn’t really intended to scare.

If you want horror, you need to read Pet Cemetary and Cujo. I have read all his stuff and seen all the movies. I tried to watch pet cemetery but that turned into a big NOPE really quick.

I really enjoy his short story collections. Nightmares and Dreamscapes comes to mind, as well as Everything's Eventual (which contains a favorite of mine - The Road Virus Heads North).
