Who's your favorite underrated character in the Harry Potter books?

I'm curious to know who are people's favorite side characters or characters that aren't usually talked about.

I'll start first saying Viktor Krum. I'm currently re-reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and tbh I feel like he had so much potential to be a secondary character in the hole saga (and not just in this book). Other characters in Hogwarts seem to have so little personality in comparison to Krum...

Also, I would've loved if Horace Slughorn had already been a teacher since year one (although I understand it would have changed the plot). Idk, I feel like he would have been a great recurrent character, because if I remember correctly, he's the only "good" character from slytherin (at least of those characters who play a role in the Harry Potter story, do not count characters like Merlin).

And no, I don't consider Snape to be a "good" character (in terms of morality), I don't care about his past, that doesn't change the fact that he was a HUGE 4sshole to Harry since book one.

And on the side of villains I feel like Bellatrix Lestrange and Regulus Black could have been more interesting.

Yes! And the whole bit in the shrieking shack where he is willing to revise his entire understanding of the last decade - when he realizes Pettigrew is alive - but he ALSO doesn't allow Sirius to become a murderer by exacting revenge.

Charlie Weasley. I don’t know many people who dislike nor like him, seeing that he isn’t as popular as some of the other Weasley children, but I wish we could’ve seen a lot more of him in the series.

We need a book about his experiences training dragons in Romania.

Charlie is definitely underrated and living proof that our protagonists are far from the coolest in that world.

For the underrated characters im thinking Regulus Black, but the one that instantly popped into mye head was Florence (the centaur). I wish we could get to know him better....

As for villains, Umbridge was an amazing villain!

Ever since I re-read the books as an adult I would say Dumbledore. We get bits and pieces where its serves the story and there is a bit more on pottermore but I think that once you read the book as an adult you realize that his story arc could be a stand alone series and he could be developed into a really interesting anti-hero if the book was for adults. I would love to understand more about his thoughts, his (at times) almost Machiavellian scheming as well as his development.

My favorite underrated character is actually anyone reading another book! Put this in the Harry Potter sub if you must keep propagating fandom for terf content, not here.

JK Rowling has explicitly said that she interprets support and fandom for the harry Potter series as support for her hateful and damaging views. It's worth calling out.

She is actively using both the clout and the money she brings in from Harry Potter to advance her political beliefs! Harry Potter isn't bigger than her, she's in the text, and she's still alive reaping the benefits of being a popular author and using them to hurt people!

I have the privilege of being able to ignore her, because what she says doesn't affect me.

But. I bought all my books second hand. I don't buy licensed merchandise. Though indo buy things made by the community of thoughtful intelligent accepting individuals that love HP as much as I do. And that's something worth sticking around for.

The social status of Harry Potter facilitates her ability to continue pushing her hateful views. Harry Potter fandom gives her millions of dollars that she then donates to hate orgs making the UK a fucking nightmare for trans people. Even if you don't give her money, the people you're cheering on and sharing space with do! And again, her nastiness is IN the books you love so dearly.

If you're committed to putting your enjoyment of bigoted children's books above the health and safety of trans people, that's a choice you can make, but I'm not gonna lie to you and tell you that's not a really messed up one.

I loved Harry Potter too. Then I grew up and realized that the enjoyment I had for this book series wasn't worth ignoring the harm it facilitates.
