Which sequel are you thirstiest for?

For me it is the sequel to Jasper Fforde’s absolutely perfect Shades of Grey. It’s a stunningly detailed, imaginative dystopia. It is hard to summarize. It’s a book to read if you like books. Just talking about it makes me want to read it all over again. A+ corker of a book.

It came out in 2009 and ended on a cliffhanger!

The sequel is allegedly getting published this summer, but I refuse to believe it until I see it.

I’m also waiting for the sequel to Shades of Grey, though I only read it two years ago when I read all of Fforde’s work. I’d love another Thursday Next book too.

It apparently came out but we've not found a surviving copy, Lucian of Samosata's "A True Story"

It's one of the oldest recorded sci-fi stories, written in 200 BC and a parody of travelodges that were popular at the time, but it's was just such an enjoyable read, it's wild, he teases a continuity in the story but we haven't found any surviving copies.

I recommend it, short read and wild, like 1800 years later we have these similar ideas and it's crazy to think. xD

That's good news, I read this only last year and hadn't realised there'd been such a long wait for a sequel. At 14 years that surpasses the wait for The Winds of Winter, though I'm sure George will still manage to outdo that in the end.

I need another trilogy in the First Law universe. Luckily, Joe Abercrombie is kind of known for writing entire trilogies of books before publishing the first one. So when and if we get the first one, another two books are probably shortly on their way.

My two running series' are The Locked Tomb (waiting for Alecto the Ninth) and The Masquerade (waiting for the next The _______ Baru Cormorant) and I think I'd take the latter since the former just came out. Would also take the final book in Robert Caro's Lyndon Johnson biography, though I feel like a poser because I've only dabbled in that set rather than actual sit down to read.

What I am not interested in taking: The Winds of Winter.

The next book in the 'Haunting Danielle' series by Bobbi Holmes.

This is so not what I normally read - I guess it would be classified as cozy ghost mystery - but I came across the first four books as a set on sale and ended up falling in love with the characters. It's an indie series and it's up to 31 or 32 books. They're relatively short at 250 pages each or so but I really enjoy them.

I've already pre-ordered the next one which comes in April.

There are a lot of incomplete history book trilogies that have been started in the past 20 years. I'm waiting on part 2 of Rick Atkinson's American Revolution trilogy, which should get past the Battle of Saratoga.

SoG2 was my first thought when I saw this thread. Yes I know he's released Early Riser and The Constant Rabbit and the entire Dragonslayer series and a couple of Thursday Next books in the meantime, they've all been good-to-brilliant and done an OK job of keeping me satisfied.. But boy am I ready for that Shades of Grey sequel.

In 2002 we got the absolutely beautiful YA fantasy book Abarat, by Clive Barker. In 2004 he published what was supposed to be book 2 of 5 in the series. In 2011 we finally got book 3 of 5.

His website still says he's working on books 4 and 5 and there's synopsis and artwork, but no eta and it seems like the website hasn't been updated in ages. So I just don't think I'll ever get to experience the end of one of my all time favorite series (that I still recommend whenever applicable, the first book is just too good).

Vikram Seth is supposed to be publishing a sequel to A Suitable Boy, entitled A Suitable Girl…. it’s been on hold for years but I’m still holding out hope it’ll be released!

There's everything in a short story, it'll cost you like a dollar (maybe 0 if you find it online) and a short read, but there's: Space spider, a male-only moon country, centaurs, a giant whale, fish people LIVING in the giant whale.... I read it and i was in awe, like whoever did the translation from old Greek to English did an amazing job, my first read of 2023 and a great start, not to mention it's over 1800 years old which still baffles me, you'd think we'd have changed a lot in nearly 2 millenia, nope, i bet we shitposted just as hard back then, they probably had lol too...

The Splendor and Misery of Bodies, of Cities, the abandoned sequel to Stars in My Pocket Like Grains of Sand by Samuel Delany. A relationship Delany was in inspired Stars and the planned sequel, but when the relationship ended so ended his desire to write the sequel.
