I'm new to Boston (and the US in general). I'm a European exchange student barely getting by with a stipend but I fucking love steak. I have no car and the public transport is abysmal so I can't go outside of town to buy food in bulk (I hear Costco is like that). I learnt all about the grading system here but I cannot seem to find select/ungraded beef online. I really like ribeyes and I don't care about the grade.

Where can I get the cheapest ribeye in Boston? I'm talking slightly above dog food levels. Bulk is fine, I can freeze up to around 10 lbs.

Download the Star market app where they have weekly deals — when meat goes on sale and you use those digital coupons, the steaks and meat deals are out of this world.

I got three steaks for $10 before and once, a chunk of beef for $11. Made roast beef that lasted me an entire week, man.

I know this isn’t the answer to your question, but one thing you should really keep an eye out for while you’re still here is steak tips - either in a store or at restaurants.

AFAIK they’re a local-ish thing and are generally a cheap way to enjoy steak. And even on top of that, because they’re generally fairly tough cuts of meat, lots of places have unique ways of marinating/tenderizing them.

Not shitty at all FYI, the quality is very good and the prices are reasonable, but if cheap is key, MB is cheaper. Also check the weekly circulars for the big grocery stores. Sometimes they run specials (As others have said)

Take the Orange Line to Wellington Center. Take the free shuttle to Encore casino. Cross the little pedestrian bridge into the mall where the Costco resides.

The prospect of taking two modes of public transportation to the casino of all places so OP can buy the cheapest steak in the area of all things is making me chuckle

Local carnivore here… sous vide is your friend. You can buy chuck roasts at Market Basket for $5/lbs. Sous vide at 131 degrees for 18-24 hours and sear in cast iron with clarified butter. Poor man’s ribeye, nice and tender.

Lambert's butcher counter has good prices.

Roxy's in Quincy is lesser expensive.

Costco is dope if you have a vacuum sealer and a freezer.

You can go big and buy a half cow. Then you definitely need a freezer.

Go to Fins Japanese Restaurant (there are a couple, one in Beacon Hill). Order their steak teppanaki, it’s grilled and comes with bowl of rice and veggies. Under $20. Or a Chinese restaurant in Chinatown and order their iron steak. It will be well-priced.
