I got a letter, text, and email from Mass Health saying they got news from a "trusted source" that my contact information/address changed. I've been on vacation in Canada since January and am returning to Massachusetts tomorrow. I told them I was on vacation and my address hasn't changed, and they said, weird, and told me everything should be fine then.

A couple weeks later I get a message from Patient Gateway from Mass General Brigham asking me to confirm my demographic and insurance information with the subject "Address Mismatch". I haven't moved!!!

Why is this happening and how am I supposed to prevent it? Are people not allowed to take long vacations? I don't want my health insurance in jeopardy every time I visit my boyfriend.

Did Mass Health confirm your address with you on the phone? Did they send any paperwork to you while you were away? Did they at least tell you what the incorrect address was?

Back when I worked in patient registration for a local hospital, we'd run patients' insurances to make sure the plan was still active and that all demographic info matched up with the insurance. This all happens before the patient goes for their appointment. All that information comes from the insurance. If MGB told you that there was an address mismatch, it means Mass Health gave them the incorrect one. What you can do is to call MGB and see if they can tell you what Mass Health gave them for the address. Also make sure that the address listed on your Patient Gateway is correct.

Most people's insurances get updated in January every year and sometimes things just don't get updated correctly.

Hi! Yes, Mass Health confirmed my address with me on the phone on January 17th and said it matched and everything looked good, and that I shouldn't have any issues. I just went on Health Connector, however, and my address has been changed to my apartment in California that I haven't lived in or been to since 2018 and I'm no longer eligible for Mass Health. So that's cool. I'm currently on hold for an hour with Mass Health to figure out why this is happening.. I have an eye appointment on Thursday too. :)

Ty for the info though, looks like something on their end got messed up somehow.. I'm more angry that they said it was fine when it wasn't and now I'm out of insurance...

I bet Mass Health is using a third party, and they think you still live there. I had a friend who had a tough time because Sales Force thought someone else was in the deed. Then they kept getting bounced out of Mass State programs to help homeowners because the verification process kept incorrectly showing a different home owner

My credit check with Google to get the pixel pre-order used an address I haven't lived at for some time. It was literally seven apartments ago. No idea how they even found that address lol

I got one of these too. But I did have to update my phone number. I think there may have been a glitch or system change.

Sounds like your identity may have been stolen? Check your accounts and credit report is able

I thought of this possibility but it turns out it keeps thinking I'm living in my old apartment from 5 years ago. Would identity theft do this?

Not surprised. There’s a huge gamesmanship between providers (ie hospitals), payers (ie insurance), pharmacies and manufacturers going on right now. Certain hospitals (like Mass General) and clinics get mandatory federal discounts called 340B for drugs, without any mandated passthrough or even price transparency to patients.

what did you say to me? Say it again you filthy transplant. Yeah i know your type. You probably have Connecticut plates and a Yankees sticker on your car. You brag about how close you live to Fenway Park, but then complain in the sub about how loud the concerts are. How about you and me meet in the parking lot of the 7-11 in Revere and settle this?

If M-W picked a "2023 Insult of the Year" this would doubtless be the winner.
