My boyfriend is running the marathon and I’m trying to schedule our stay. Any recommendations for the area that would be near the starting point or near a bus stop that will take him to/from there? If anyone could recommend a hotel or a general area that would be great :)

To give you a constructive answer.

Anything that is downtown will be fine. At this point you're sort of in a "take what you can get" phase. It'll be pricey I'm sure. There are buses out to the starting line early in the morning. It's much better to do that then look for something way out in the suburbs and then have to get BACK there after the marathon when he's tired and there's no organized bus or whatever.

Are you asking for a hotel near the Hopkinton marathon start? If so, I don't think there are many hotels in the area close enough to get to the starting line without using a car. Instead, the vast majority of people stay in Boston and take the BAA provided shuttles to the start line: https://www.baa.org/races/boston-marathon/enter/transportation. That way, when you're done running, you don't have to worry about how you'll get back to your hotel all the way back at the start line.

Runners also get the super cool experience of every random stranger they pass congratulating them as they hobble back to the hotel. And people giving up their seats in the T.

I can confirm this. As far as I know, there are no hotels in the town of Hopkinton, period.
