Sup. Friend of mine is running Boston for the first time next month. What’s the best way to follow him along and try and watch from a few spots? Green line gonna be a mess.

Worth it to see the start? Better spots in the middle that are your old family’s secrets? Ending for sure.

Here is a list from last year:

Download the marathon app so you can track him and know when to expect him at certain spots.

last year there were two apps and it was confusing and screwy so don't wait until the last minute to download! Also, the app historically only tells you when the runner has passed a handful of notable spots (5k, 10k, half, etc), so know what mile marker YOU are at, so when it says your runner is at mile 13 you know what that means for timing.

I would not bother being there at the start. Let them settle in to their race routine and it'll be a complete zoo. From a hype standpoint, it's much much more fun and effective to have your buds at some point later on in the race when you're looking for a new wind. Lots of great spots where they should see you up until you get up until a little past Cleveland cirle where it starts to get hard to see folks in the crowd again. Not trying to say avoid the finishline, but you might get hung up logistically unless you're following them on side streets by bike.
