Heard it can be a rough ride out, so screw the cruise part and do yourself a huge favor by taking the 1.5 hour flight instead and spend all of your time actually in Bermuda. Amazing place. It likely won’t be very warm in April though. Think low 70’s.

I went on a cruise to the Bahamas in feb 2020 and came back with a horrible respiratory infection that sidelined me for 3 weeks and I have to wonder if I was patient zero in the Boston area :-(

Ya, so a lot of locals from New England are on the same ship for school vacation? I’m from mass but kid goes to school in NH. They both have different weeks off. Have you been during these times?

I have been on lots of cruises during the MA school vacation weeks. Including from Boston to Bermuda on Norwegian. You will have lots of fun. It's a great trip.

Its quite cool there in April so it wont be beach/pool weather there and of course on the way there you wont be hanging out on the deck and swimming. That would put me off doing a cruise.

Never cruised there myself, but Bermuda is great. You'll find that a lot of folks taking the cruise ships there just take the ferry to Hamilton (assuming you'll sail into the Royal Navy Dockyard) or take the bus or taxi to Horseshoe Bay. The latter gets incredibly crowded in warmer weather and might as well be Hampton Beach (bad behavior, tacky crap for sale.) Any of the other southern facing beaches are great options.

Your kid may be a bit young to be a passenger on a scooter, but you can rent electric two seater cars (some side by side, some front to back, like Bobsleds.)

The bus system there is solid, but know that when school starts and gets out the buses will take a lot, lot longer.

Great info. We’re frequent travelers but never been on a cruise before and definitely first with a kid. I wonder how much fun things are for someone that age to do on a ship like that.

But sounds like once in Bermuda there’s fun stuff to do.

The beaches are great - though it may be a bit cool. The island is quiet and skews older, so there will not be the types of attractions like you’d find in Aruba, Orlando, etc.

Plan on eating on the boat - the food on the island is very expensive and not all that great. The people there are some of the happiest, kindest folks you’ll ever meet.

Take a look at the ships themselves, they should tell you what’s available. I’ve been on one whole cruise, and it was before covid. But they had different “daycares” for different ages with tons to do and activities for kids the whole cruise. There was also an arcade. There are typically shows throughout the cruise I’m certain most a 6 year olds would find entertaining (like magic).

And the pools are still an option on the cruise even if the weather isn’t super warm, the sun helps a lot. There was also a curfew of like 10pm I think for kids, though it was fairly ignored and I’m sure if it was one child with their parents no one would care at all. It’s the unaccompanied ones that run around that are the issue.

We did a 5 day out of Baltimore with Royal Caribbean pre-pandemic sailing in September. This was the wife and mine's first cruise. We didn't have a kid yet. The cruise itself was kind of boring. The food was mediocre. But Bermuda was great. We rented a scooter and explored ourselves instead of doing a pre-planned activity. We explored some less popular beaches and the Botanical garden. My cousin was there with his 4 year old, and they seemed pretty stressed keeping him wrangled. We've got a 3 year old now and can feel their pain. I think a large factor is how chill of a 6 year old you have.

I did this cruise as a teenager and it was pretty great. They have plenty of activities set up for all ages, although it is better when the whole family has autonomy.
