I think there's something wrong with that calculator. I put in the info and it says I'm getting back way more than I paid in 2021 MA taxes. If I'm reading the article correctly, should I be getting back 13% of what I paid in state taxes?

did you put in the amount you paid in federal taxes instead of state?

Put in the amount you paid to Massachusetts as the top line. Not your income.

Sounds like you entered your income instead of your state income tax.

Did you put in your gross income instead of your tax adjusted income?

You calculate the 13% based off the 5% of your income the state took. It's a really trivial amount of money for most folks (<$1000).
