ReStored in West Roxbury

Just to clarify, this is the Habitat for Humanity ReStore (not ReStored) off Route 1 in Roxbury. There’s also the Savers on VFW Parkway just a short drive away. And I agree 100%, this is your first stop.

It has everything really. I'm sad I didn't learn about this earlier and it's cheap.

Join your local buy nothing group on Facebook too. People give stuff away all the time

Check Facebook Marketplace. I have noticed a lot of people are selling furnitures cheap or just giving them away.

Your city probably has a “buy nothing/free” group as well. Check it out to stock your apartment. We got a working treadmill from one once!

I have some bedroom furniture from my tenant that got left behind. Dresser, bed frame, chest that's in great condition that I'm planning to donate to goodwill, if you are interested let me know

Savers is the local thrift store chain that has lots of furniture. Of varying quality but still.

Doubling down on this suggestion. Not just furniture but every kind of hone good you’d ever need. Want hot rollers for a fancy hair style? How about a crystal vase or fondue pot? And don’t forget the grab bag wall for candles, measuring spoons, and yarn for knit projects. Seriously though, furniture & everything else changes almost daily so if u don’t find what you need on one trip, just try again next week. Not sure if they’re still doing this but if you have anything you’re trying to clear out of the house you can donate there and get a coupon for discount on your purchase

I furnished my whole apartment with secondhand stuff back in 2018. It takes a few months to get everything you want in the condition you want it in, so it may be worth checking these sites on rotation daily/a few times a week.

-Craigslist, got a shocking amount of nice stuff off the "free" section

-Freecycle.org

-Nextdoor

-FB Marketplace/Buy Nothing groups

-MaxSold, learning curve with online auctions but amazing furniture

Good luck.

8/31. The day when everyone moves out and leaves all their shit behind.

It’s really more like the 12 days of Allston Christmas, starts about 8/20 (when people start curbing things they don’t want to move) and continues until the trash day after 9/1

There is also the May version of Allston Christmas. You will see stuff being left out a bunch then too. Throughout most of the year people will put stuff out. Remember to check different neighborhoods

I got an entire sectional for free from a Buy Nothing group in Brookline.

Allston Christmas is in May and Sept. You just missed free furniture, all over the city.

Harvard Recycling Center in Allston is free and open to public Thursdays during mid-day. It’s a crapshoot but people have found treasures there.
