Ok, I'm from wmass (a pretty shitty city called "Springfield" if you've heard of it) but I might have a job opportunity in Brighton. I don't actually know that much about Boston or the different neighborhoods etc. The job would be at WGBH which is at the corner of Guest st and Market st. I see that there isn't really a T stop very close by. What would be the best T stop to use? Griggs? Allston st? I'm thinking of getting off at Allston St, walking down Gordon st, then walking down N Beacon St. Is this a decent plan? Is that area decently walkable? As in, there are sidewalks etc? Crazy that there aren't any stops farther into Brighton. I guess it's Newton nimbys stopping it?

Anything else I should know about that area? I understand Allston-brighton is mostly students, which is fine by me, I'm in my late 20s. Will I have difficulty finding a reasonably affordable room? I understand housing is tight in Boston but all those students have to be living somewhere. Anyway happy halloween everyone!

If you know what salary this potential job opportunity will have, how much will you be able to spend on a "reasonably affordable room"? What will your budget be if you have to pay a portion of utilities such as electric, heat, and/or Internet? I'm assuming you mean having your own bedroom in an apartment with roommates. Also, are you going to own/use a car while you are living in (potentially) Allston-Brighton? There is a Commuter Rail Line (Framingham-Worcester) that includes a stop at Boston Landing which is about a 5-7 minute walk to WGBH. In order to become familiar with the neighborhood I'd suggest visiting it in person and following the walking route you've described (getting off at Allston St, etc) and experiencing it for yourself. Also, definitely check out the Wiki on the right sidebar in the section "Guide to Moving to Boston" for additional information and suggestions.

Salary would be $50k, which is pretty low for Boston as I understand it but it's basically my first job out of college and it's for a nonprofit and it's a good opportunity etc. My budget would probably be around $1200/month, all in. Like if rent was $1000, I could do $200 for utilities and so on. Is that reasonable for that area of Brighton? Would my money stretch farther living somewhere farther out on the commuter rail line and commuting in? A lot of the towns on the commuter rail seem to be more expensive, like Newton, Wellesley etc? I'm a single male, I don't want to be spending a lot for amenities that are irrelevant to me like good schools etc.

Yes, I'm talking about shared apartment with roommates. Is craigslist still the best site for finding roommates?

I don't have a car, I would be relying on public transit and my own two legs. Is this a bad idea? Thank you for all your tips, honestly appreciate it.
