The total cost will be $160. Is there anything I can do to get my money back or get reimbursed?

If there were no signs warning me do I have a good chance at getting my money back?

You can contest the ticket on the government website and possibly if you have no other offenses they will forgive the ticket but, towing is a whole different company so that is a no go.

possibly, what park of columbus? youre sure theres no signs on the block?

Not sure about towing, but in the past I’ve been ticketed for street cleaning despite poor signage. The ticket was cancelled after contesting it with some photos on the government website.
Since towing is a private company, that’s probably a whole different beast.

I’ve yet to see a block in the downtown area with no signs.

Got it so at best I only get the cost of the ticket ($40)? They wouldn’t reimburse me for the cost of towing ($160)?

Where the CVS is. It’s frustrating that the app allowed me to pay

Towing companies are parasites you're not getting that money back. You can contest the ticket and if it's your first time the city might let you off. It's unlikely there was no signage at all.

Go back TODAY and walk the entire block recording as you go.
If there are indeed no signs then you can probably file in small claims court and get your money back. But honestly there are probably signs there.

oh yeah just looked it up on street view, real low chance of any appeal going through there man, sorry
Yak_Rodeo t1_iu4jueg wrote
the transportation department authorizes the tows and has to ticket the cars before tow companies can tow them for street sweeping. how are they parasites for doing a job the city asked them to do?
lifeisakoan t1_iu4nmwd wrote
You aren't getting the tow money back.
christmaszeev t1_iu4ny3l wrote
Yeah there are signs on both sides of the street on that block
Quincyperson t1_iu4olan wrote
Yeah, you can go to the tow lot and pay the $110 to get your car out of the lot. And then pay your ticket by mail
charons-voyage t1_iu4qvnj wrote
I think the better way to phrase it is that Tommy from BTD and Marky from the tow company are in cahoots.
getinthecar1 t1_iu4t7yh wrote
You’re not getting your money back likely unless you go to the parking clerk for a hearing and beg. They legit pulled up google maps street view to scan the block during one of my parking hearings

Sorry dude. Towing companies are some shady pieces of shit. They take advantage of how dependent people are on their vehicles. They'll outright lie and price gouge you then make you pay cash so there's no paper trail.

I know. Oh well. Shitty day but I’ll know next time.
Proof-Variation7005 t1_iu51ut6 wrote
In general? No. Those companies are generally fucking awful. I wouldn't say impossible but you'd need to be able to prove they were in the wrong and it's going to take a lot of work to have any chance.
Chippopotanuse t1_iu58fto wrote
Which is total bullshit. City needs to stop towing cars for anything other than emergency reasons. Most folks have no clue about street sweeping, half the signs are missing, the machines often don’t even sweep, and the whole “we will steal and impound your car to get you to pay a $40 fine” is total crap.
It’s just a racket by the tow companies and shitty politicians to make MILLIONS of dollars off the backs of folks who can’t afford private parking spots and lots.
Yak_Rodeo t1_iu5awpt wrote
how? tow companies bid for the city contracts and its a transparent process.
dontdoxxxmebrooo t1_iu5b5ac wrote
You’re not the only one. I saw others being towed just 45 min ago

I got a ticket because they put up a brand new no parking sign while I was parked there. I contested and lost.
In other words, no, don't bother contesting.
I find it easier to just mentally allocate like $200/yr to tickets/towing.
riski_click t1_iu5n7un wrote
OP was looking in the middle of the street. There were no signs there.

I also got towed and ticketed in Cambridge. The signs posted clearly stated street cleaning was another day. When I went to parking office in person they told me “it was a scheduled makeup day” and that I “should have checked the website” to know of the additional cleaning day. I also got no sympathy from the towing company. These practices should not be legal - imho. Seems like an easy cash grab on the part of the city and tow company.

The city needs to have better signage when there is daytime street sweeping on metered streets. People tend to just look at the meter.
SoMuchJamImToast t1_iu60nms wrote
Since everybody's blaming you, just want to say it's definitely confusing that the app let you pay. Probably making the app aware of tow schedules was considered too hard to maintain and keep in sync so they just figured tricking people is a fine outcome, more money for the city
AskSuch8714 t1_iu6kzhs wrote
Agree!! And they towed my kids car and side view mirror got broken from their shitty tow service. Ridiculous ways to make $ off of people and be so shady at the same time
AskSuch8714 t1_iu6la7w wrote
More like $150 a tow but ymmv
Yak_Rodeo t1_iu4d1m9 wrote
nope, your responsibility to look for signs and park correctly. theres probably a sign further down the block
sucks but thats the way it goes
