The Boston Customs House (now renovated to a hotel) has an observation deck open 6 days/week at 2PM, with you making a reservation 48 hours in advance.

From the website:

<https://www.bostoncentral.com/customs-house-boston-observation-deck-views>

"...Customs House Observation Deck Tours Timing is everything when visiting this venue, as the 26th-floor observation deck is only open once daily (at 2:00 pm 6 days a week with the exception of Fridays), and weather permitting, so its a bit of a roulette play. But well worth it if the stars align for you.

Registration is required 48 hours in advance by calling 617-310-6300 (x4 - front desk). No back packs are allowed, and there are now only 8 people allowed per reservation."

The Observation Deck at Independence Wharf.

Free to the public. You have to check in at the security desk but the rooftop is part of the Harbor Walk, and has nice views of both downtown and the Harbor.

Not roof access, but if your looking for the best views of downtown Boston, the Reel House in East Boston has the best views in my opinion. There's a public park there you could sit at all day.

thanks. I knew there was a place in that area because a friend once watched the Marathon from there but I wasn't sure exactly where it was.

Google Earth (or just Maps) in 3D mode will save you a good amount of time scouting locations too 👍

Over the Charles Roof top bar at the double tree in Allston. Haven't been in a long time, but looks to still be open.

The BU law tower has really nice Boston views. You won't be able to get into the offices, but you can ride the tower elevator up and look through the window up there.

The Mass General Hospital garage has a great view from the top floor for sketching. Lots of buildings, including the State House, in the view (also you can see the Charles River). So, if your skill is still very boxy, it's a nice view. Also, lots of light changes during the day if you want to practice shading.

I prefer the garage on the left as you enter North Grove St (Fruit St garage).

If you can get someone to let you into MIT's green building (it's the super tall one with the ball thing on top) there are views from many classrooms etc on the upper floors. Technically not open to the public anymore since Covid but no one with care.

There's a rooftop bar in seaport. Off a quick Google I'm guessing it's "lookout rooftop and bar"

The back parking lot of the Faulkner hospital has a great view on the roof level. It’s relatively unknown but worth it to see

Get a job on a crane. Sure it might take 10 - 15 years but then you will get some sweet views.
