Hey everyone,

I know nothing about renting out private room within a restaurant (preferable) or maybe the restaurant itself and am looking for recs/reviews of where to do this. It'd be pretty small/intimate--about 20 people max, and I can just invite fewer people if necessary (which is why I'm thinking a room would be better). Dinner budget <$200/person (including drinks) and I'd like to find a place that's <$2000 to rent out/reserve for dinner (3-4 hours?). Is this possible to find in Boston? Am I either under or overestimating my budget?

There are tons of places that do this, and your budget is reasonable unlike some people that ask this question.

Do you have a part of Boston/Cambridge, etc that is preferable? Or a type of cuisine you’d like to stick to?

I'm pretty flexible on location--my friends and I graduated BU a few years back then scattered, so honestly Back Bay/Allston/Harvard and Central Squares would probably have the most nostalgia, though I adore Myers+Chang and Fox and the Knife so I'm definitely not limiting myself to those locations. Cuisine isn't as important to me as atmosphere--I don't want anything too elaborate or stuffy. It'd preferably be the atmosphere of a wine bar or small plates type place--just really good food and drinks with a fun atmosphere; relatively casual but (slightly) upscale that people feel like they're trying out some new stuff and encountering creative menu items.

If you have any recs I'd love to hear em. Thanks for all your help so far :)

Yeah I've looked at this list and I'll keep it in mind--it's just that a lot of those places seated a lot more people than I needed (no need for me to rent a space for 150 people) and were slightly more formal/upscale than the more fun/casual vibe I was gunning for. If you have personal experience/recs for any of the places listed on there, though, I'd love to hear about it!

The majority of those aren’t upscale. Tambo, Pier 6, Russel House, Puritan, branch line, Pagu, Yvonne’s, Porto, Darryl’s, Lincoln, blossom bar, table, Bowery bar are all extremely lively. I don’t see any claiming you need 150, just that they CAN. Most cite smaller numbers

Other very lively places I know with private spaces are committee, Lolita, empire, and Mariel

The back patio at Burro Bar South End can be rented out and they winterize it so don’t worry about it being cold! Easily the best work holiday party I’ve been to!

The Helmand (Afghan food) in Kendall has a private room and the food is great! I went to a group dinner of around 15 people there recently and I think it ended up close to 100pp with food and drinks
