Why don't you take a seat right over here....

Just have a regular day out at the Aquarium in your tux. Spend the whole time staring at the penguins, shaking your head from time to time, and muttering "fucking amateurs don't know style" whenever other guests are in earshot.

Lizhasausername t1_iy24vd6 wrote

Plenty of folks in jeans at the symphony too. If you are playing dress up, I recommend getting good seats to be around others more dressed up. Good doesn’t mean expensive — you can get $25 tickets if you’re under 40 down in the front side orchestra, and that’ll do the trick. Also pick a Saturday night.

anurodhp t1_iy2dors wrote

Oh it’s 25 now. I used 20 under 40 for years and loved it

15

Lizhasausername t1_iy3qoun wrote

Yeah, still worth it though. In a few years I’ll be asking here about how to get the most uncool ever fake ID so I can keep getting these tickets!!

Plenty of jeans there but you won't get weird looks like you would at some other concert hall.

ICA first Fridays parties aren’t black tie but they are the more reliably fashionable recurring event in Boston that I know of. So if you just want to dress fancy but not specifically a tux, or are up for modifying your tux into something a little more groovy, see you first Friday of the month at the ICA!

True to storm troopers the shoot their shot…and missed by a mile.

People get weird at those events for adults at the museum. And I appreciate it.

My wife and I had an amazing time at our wedding, anyone not having a good time at their own wedding is doing it wrong, not sure what that user is talking about.

I’ve noticed Reddit is sort of “anti-wedding” so I’d take what people say about weddings on here with a big grain of salt.

13

tamirabeth t1_iy3ergm wrote

I meant if they knew someone was crashing. My wedding was expensive as hell and intentionally small, I'd be pissed if someone I didn't know crashed.

Also, my wedding and marriage were/are fantastic. No complaints.

The Boston Ballet Ball!

Super fancy gala with nice food, you get a (short) ballet as part of the program, and surprisingly fun dance party at night after the dinner because the dancers join it. Looks like it's in February!

Just wear it out wherever. My friends and I used to have a monthly tuxedo outing, and just go to random dive bars and restaurants. Black tie events typically are boring. Wearing a tuxedo to a dive bar, especially with a group of 10 people in tuxedos, is awesome. We always had fake back stories (charity events, book release party, canceled wedding etc). It was a great time. I got engaged one night because of the tuxedo. Never saw that lady again. Haha.

Be your own event. Ride the T. Grab a taxi. Step into McDonalds. See a movie. Better grab your top hat and tails though for full effect. Best to make a full statement in the common folks establishments
