You might happen to be able to drive but the tests you take do not establish that. Anyone could pass the test. Therefore some people can drive, some just know how to go around the block and parallel park.

I had a cousin from Europe who lived with my family for a year in the US and on his list of things to do that year was get a drivers license because it was significantly easier and less expensive to get a license in the US and covert it over to his home country instead of passing the test there.

Our drivers education is a joke here and it’s one of the reasons our roads are so unsafe.

Check out your rta and road accident mortality rate vs countries with a proper driving test. USA 12.4 deaths per 100,000 people. UK 2.9. In the UK you have to take a 1 hour test that includes rotaries, multi lane highways, complex junctions with poor visibility. Any meaningful mistake and you fail. I’ve taken and passed the test in both countries I am very aware which one actually tests whether you can drive properly.
