Newton Resident interested in converting our currently wood burning fire (never used since we bought it 3 years ago) to a gas fireplace. We had some patio work done that included having a plumber install a gas line to where the fireplace is, but stopped short of actually converting it at the time. Any companies that you've worked with and had a good experience? I assume there are tons of options for the overall aesthetic so having an option to see a few in a showroom might be nice. Thanks!

Our experience is exactly the opposite - our gas fireplace with built-in fan warms up our living room within 10min and I find myself turning it off after 2 hours because of how hot it gets.

I just replaced a pellet stove with a gas one and it basically can heat my entire 1500 sqft house if left on long enough. It definitely gets hot. I went to new England harth and home in Canton and had a fantastic experience from start to finish.

We like our gas insert and it provides a good amount of heat, but would not recommend the company we worked with, commonwealth fireplace. Pretty slow and disorganized and expensive.

You're going to want to want a gas insert instead of just gas burning logs.
Head to a fireplace store with pictures and some general measurements of the opening and they'll sort you out.

We did this exact conversion and got a quadrafire gas insert from Yankee Fireplace in Middleton. It has a blower with different speeds so you can get as toasty as you like. We are very happy with it and we get it maintained/ checked every year.

If you are doing it for pure aesthetics then go for it. If you are expecting to get significant heat from it, a gas fireplace isn't the best option - we did this years ago and the amount of heat coming from the gas insert was underwhelming.
