Hey Boston experts. I’ve read quite a few of the threads on this topic - and so far everyone classifies Dorchester as “street by street” as far as safety and enjoyability goes. We are scoping out some places that look to be between Jones Hill and Upham’s Corner. Anyone know which “street type” this would be? Safe? Near fun activities? Walkable?

IMHO that's right at the line of quiet Dorchester and riff raff Dorchester meaning sketchy shit is unlikely to happen on your street but may happen a street over.

You're accessible to South Bay and close to Southie bars which are popular, and it's a sub-twenty dollar ube ride in/out of the city.

Proximity to the city and the beach seemed like the biggest wins. We walk a ton (three dogs) so wanted something walkable and convenient. And safe of course! Thanks for this. Super thoughtful.

If it’s cheap I’d do it. It’s not a super bad place and the new part of South Bay is right there.

Awesome! It’s not cheap by other city standards but by Boston standards I think it is :).

You'll be right at the border of fine and not so fine. You'll be ok.

The biggest thing to me is it will be right next to a train line so you have to be comfortable with that. Also it’s not close to the T in case you plan to use that. There’s not a ton of places to go within walking distance, though Dorchester brewing is good. It is convenient being close to South Bay. Just take a walk around the neighborhood and see what you think from that.

This is great advice. Currently live in the Midwest which is part of why I wanted to throw the question out there. I did the Google street walk around the block but it’s just not the same.

Sure, don’t know if this makes sense for you but I stayed at a long term Airbnb a couple months while house hunting. Check out your commute times on google-you’re close to commuter rail but it doesn’t run as often as the T. There are plenty of sidewalks and not too much traffic over there for dog walking. There are also some nice small parks and playgrounds in Roxbury. In terms of places to go out, there are more over by the Savin hill station. But if you don’t mind driving a little bit there’s plenty of stuff in south end.

I believe that address is Roxbury and I would do it. Area is developing fast and super close to all the activities. South Bay is a plus.

If you have to ask, it's not for you.
