Salsa bars or Dance classes??

I used to frequent a bar that had Salsa Tuesdays and Bachata Thursdays where everyone could come and dance and eat and drink of course! It wasn't so much a class as it was people hanging out and having fun. Are there any places like that in Boston?! I'd LOVE to go :)

Second question, are there any fun partner based dance classes in Boston? I see a few awesome-looking dance studios for ballet and contemporary classes I definitely want to check out, but I want to bring my partner to a more social type dance class for fun, he's pretty experienced with other forms of movement but not necessarily a dancer. Definitely not searching for wedding style dance moves just yet lmao - something upbeat! Thanks!

Also looking in the Providence area if anyone happens to be familiar with that area.

Boston Lindy Hop is a good time. I did swing and ballroom in college, so I took one of their classes when I moved home in the fall. It was a super fun environment. They do classes and social dances to my knowledge. Lindy is quite loose and up beat. They also teach Charleston and solo jazz classes.

J&L dance studio in Malden!! They are amazing, more people should know about them! Great teachers, super affordable, both salsa/bachata classes at multiple levels.

As far as Salsa. I’ve never been, but seems like it is more of a college hang-out with the occassional exhibition style choreographed or partner-patterend performances vs a true social salsa club. But, I’ve never been so I could be wrong.

Once upon a time Providence had popular monthly dance that pulled dancers from all around the region.

Your caveat about not looking for the “wedding style” dance lessons tells me you have a clue about what true social dancing provides. Also, your emphasis on movement translating to potential dance interests is really telling of your interest and appreciation. Good luck!! I’ve been away from the social dance scene for too long, but pandemic has definitely had an impact. I sense the community anchors have somewhat lost hold, but hopefully I am wrong.
